Here are a couple photos of my just completed Atlas GP7. It started out as a factory painted unit, but I wanted to shave off the grabs and molded on lift rings. After I did that, one thing led to another, and well, the striping on the side of the shell is all that is left of the factory paint. The end striping was redone with Microscale decals. The pilots were also filed smooth and lots of holes drilled in the metal to install cut levers and hoses. The steps were painted yellow and the ends were repainted gray. With so much paint work to be done, I went ahead and renumbered it. I also replaced the exhaust stacks with Detail Associates parts. I replaced one of the axle journals with a friction journal, also from DA. Since I am running DC, I removed the lights and added MV lenses to the headlights and markers. The handrails should be yellow, but I prefer them black. Who knows, someday I might correct it. Doubt it though... ;D

Beautiful model! Gotta love the CofG.. COG was a Southern subsidiary? It became a subsidiary of the Southern in 1963. The roots of the Central of Georgia railroad goes back to 1833, but in name it came about in 1895.

Thanks for the kind words! The pictures don't really do it justice. The windows look funky and the color is a little off. Maybe it's time to upgrade my 2.0 megapixel camera...

Excellent Work, Chuck! I have never had any luck trying to keep the factory paint when modifying a shell. Major creds for your handiwork!

Great work!!! It looks just like the pictures I have seen and even looks like a Jim Six model peice! My father is a huge CofG fan and he used to work for them... So complements times two! Great weathering!

Great weathering! David - Thanks so much! I gotta say that Six was one of my favorite authors back in the 90's when he wrote a ton of articles for Model Railroading magazine. To me, that decade of MRG was the best for modeling out of all the magazines that I have read. Your father has good taste ;D Does he do any modeling?
