This started life as a Walthers Greenville chip hopper. All the molded on ladders, grab irons, sill steps, and other hideous molded on pieces were replaced. The brake end was reworked, with a new airtank, control valve, piston, piston mount, control valve mount ect. Brake levers were added, as well as brake rods. The low brake was changed to a high brake complete with Kadee brake wheel and Plano brake platform. The load was made from foam board, carved, painted and covered with sawdust. I have several build pics I can post as well.

Yea tell me about it. I've climbed up and down my share of high brakes, and it sucks! Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

Looks nice! How hard is it to replace the grabs?

Thanks! It's not too difficult, just time consuming. I actually cut off all the corner posts and made new ones from styrene(wish I'd used brass), then drilled a million holes for the grab irons and rivet castings. A lot of work but it makes a huge difference compared to how these cars look out of the box.

VERY nice work! I know I'm late to this thread, but I would love to see the build pictures you mentioned; I have a couple of these in the closet that I would like to upgrade, and would love to see how you did it.

Saw the high brake and I cringed, nothing sucks more than spending a long day (or night) on a train to get to where you're going and you have to tie multiple brakes and you stumble across one of those and pause for a few moments and curse the guy that designed them.
Nice car by the way.

This is really a great looking piece of rolling stock. Oh yes I would be cussing the guy that decided that was the best place to put the brakes on each and every one of them.
Super job I love the diorama and photos too
