I have duplicate numbers on two locomotives I own. I would like to change the numbers on one of the locomotives. I have the decals to match the factory finish. My question is after removing the existing decals, do I need to gloss coat the area before putting the new numbers on the model. Or can I place the decals on an go with a satin or flat coat of paint.
Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help. Brett Brett, Many times I have used Champ decal solution and Q-Tips to remove numbers from locomotives. I can remove four numbers from an Atlas model in about ten minutes or less using these two items and when you've removed the numbers you will have a nice smooth surface on which to add your new numbers. If you should decide to shoot a coat of gloss to the area involved, simply mask the four sides using masking tape and shoot light coats of gloss paint to prevent paint build-up. When you've added the new numbers, very carefully shoot a light coat of whatever flat you decide to use to protect the new decals. Be sure to use soft circular strokes to remove the numbers as this lessens the chances of removing the paint under the numbers. Bob

Solvaset works also. Apply to the numbers and let sit for a couple seconds then wipe of excess with cotton swab. Press clear tape into numbers then pull off.
Repeat if all the numbers don't come off the first time.
