Hello, This was my first diesel project ever done about 35 years ago, I was 14 back then. It was kitbashed using an Athearn SDP40 and a GP35 and styrene strips. There were no SD40-2 available in the market at the time so I used a Railroad Model Kraftsman article as guide. Some years after GSB offered their SD40-2 and right after Athearn did so. Joe

HI Kiro,
Nice job on that build. Very impressive for what you had to work with. I think a lot of us forget what we all had to work with not so long ago.

I agree turned out good. Its always fun seeing how our first attempts stack up with our other work, this one certainly holds its own.

The snoots have been a favorite of mine since I was a kid and this one is stunning.

Joe,
Nice model! What did you use to make the trucks back then? Bet that took a lot of shells and putty. Looks good.

Joe, Nice model! What did you use to make the trucks back then? Bet that took a lot of shells and putty. Looks good. Brian Brian, There were only two shells required as far as I remember, a SDP40 and a GP35 both Athearn. Long hood and reversed flexicoil trucks from the SDP40 - DA snubbers and UP rerail frogs were used, with some styrene to try to replicate the correct HTC type. Short hood and long hood end from GP35 as you say using some epoxy putty and styrene to fill the rear porch and extend the short hood. As of today, the model still runs very well and even has a NCE decoder inside. Cheers

I almost thought I had seen this in a MR back issue, but the road number and a few of the details are different. I did find the one I was thinking of in the April 1978 issue of Model Railroader (p.83). Unit #8051 by Jozef Podganski.
