Lately, I've had a few U-boats come in, and I wanted to adjust the details, only to find there are no parts. It looked like "Hi-Tech" made the cabs, exhausts, and a high-nose, but does anyone make the radiator parts, engine doors, screens, noses? I never understood why Cannon only made EMD parts.
Anyways, I'm surprised there isn't a market out there for people wanting to do GE models.

Hi Cab4,
Hi tech is about the only game in town, Utah Pacific dose do some GE parts. They make a real nice set of stations, lift rings, exhaust stack, and wheel slip devices. For tread plate you will have to use Archer transfers. I do alto of my radiator parts out of modified Cannon parts or Precision Scale mesh. Engine doors you will have to go the Evergreen styrene route. I have modified Cannon extended range doors and added Plano slam latches to match some access doors on GE's as well.
Hope this helps some Erik

Annoying that they do NOT feature molded on or separate parts for headlight castings, and I've had difficulty finding the right nearly-flush oval type to match typical GE design. Any suggestions?

I've got a U23B shell you can use for parts if you want it... I have a U33C that has a screwed up radiator section... Perhaps a U23C is in order?

Hey Vince,
The U23B radiators are too small for the U33C. I've got several spare Atlas U33C shells complete with handrails if needed. Send me an IM and tell me what you need.... Taylor I would like that U23B shell for an ATSF SF30B project if you would like to sell it. Please send me an IM.
Thanks, Mike

Nope.... You can have it if you want it. It's wrong for what you say you need. Even the B23-7 shell falls about a foot too narrow.

I agree, doors are a big thing for me, hood doors and battery doors. I have a method to reproduce some of those things I discovered while building my B36-7. I also learned a lot about GE wheelbases.
Cheers,
Jeff

Hey guys, I need the Chessie rock pilots for the U30B's and B30-7's. I found out that Overland Models produced them for the CSHS but they are out of them. Has any one else produced them? Miniatures by Eric seems to have one in N scale but I need HO scale. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Ok, maybe someone can help me another way. How would one make their own GE style Chessie rock pilots? I've never done anything like this, has anyone else made their own parts like these. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Packer, et all, Chessie GE's had a Rock Pilot with a different shape than the EMD version which DW-205 represents (note: Atlas also has a similar part included in the GP40-2 model (I think the undecs included this, and you could get them for a while from Atlas already painted blue), but only Overland has ever made the GE version of the Rock Pilot in the GE flavor... I built one back in 2008 for the B30-7 I bought decorated in Chessie colors. Built this just using lots of reference photos, but it matches well, and I like it. I cast a few more, but none turned out that great from the casting (flange was hard to get to not have a void or 2. Regards, Brian

Hi fellows, just a quick step in here to add my 2 cents.Been trying to make the correct rear radiator section for a Penn Central u33c.Any hints? The issues are the tapered fairing from the rad to the body and the high mounted oil bath air filter. Any chance one of the 3d printers would give it a shot? Thanks, Anthony

Anthony,
I believe the old Athearn U33C shell has the taper from he radiator to the body. When I do the high bath filter I cut the filter and doors from one shell and graft them to the one I want to use. I still have an Atlas to do this way and then I have a donor shell for other parts.

The Hi Tech cabs are actually rather screwed up. For some odd reason they seemed to copy the fat body Athearn U-Boat cab roof profile, which is also a mistake made by Atlas on their U-Boats. Atlas did get the cab roof right on its Dash 7's, tho.
