I just picked up a pair of Kalso shells for the CN GP9RM rebuilds. I wanted opinions as to what, if any, extra detail parts I should order for these kits.
Thanks,
Chris

I have a couple of the same kits i will be building, I built Kaslo kits before and I always install new plow, horn and fans from Cannon, I may replace more parts as I start to build the kits.

The front numberboards are too big (over the windshields) so you'll have to make new ones out of styrene. The stanchions are hoakie too, I used Precision scale instead.

autur, thanks for the pointers. Which plow is the most correct for the CN rebuilds (part number)?
Sean, do you have any photos showing the custom numberboards? I agree that Kaslo's stanchions have issues, always seem too flat. I've used Smokey Valley stanchions in the past on other builds, but I wouldn't mind trying out the Precision Scale stanchions. Which stanchion is correct and what is the part number?
I haven't researched these units very much, but I got a good price on the shells and decided to pick them up.

I just made mine out of styrene. They have to be the same width as the windows below them. This is the original ones from the kit...kinda jammed in between the windows, class lights and roof edge.

Sean, thanks for the photos. Is the photo-etched walkway tread in the second photo included with the kit, or is that something you added on your own?

The plow I think looks best for this project is Details West PL-257.

The Kaslo kit has walkway tread moulded in, so if you're modeling a late era GP9 (say ca. 2000 or later) then the moulded would do fine. Take if from someone who worked with these units on a regular basis, there's very little tread left on the real thing!

I suspected that the tread would be molded, the Kaslo GP-8 is similar. I'm sure I will be satisfied with the molded tread.

Shells have come in, so I will be starting a build thread at somepoint after I get started on them.
