Hello, I've settled on a location and road name for my Freelanced railroad. The Canadian Southern is a regional road that runs from Manitoba-Ontario-Montreal with inter-modal connections to the Pan-Am in Portland Maine, NS & CSX in Pennsylvania & Detroit. Besides inter-modal traffic, some of the other Canadian Southern traffic includes grain, lumber, cement, oil, & auto traffic. Below are a couple of schemes myself and some freelancers on facebook came up with. So far the roster for the Canadian Southern are the following 1 Dash 8-40B & 2 SD40-2HHs and 1 SD40-2. I would appreciate feed back on the 2 paint schemes.

Damn! I was thinking of doing Canadian southern as an NS subsidiary!
The red is slightly more convincing as it's typically Canadian but I see the ON scheme hiding in the first one. Both are plausible schemes and would work well.

Livery is a very personal thing. For what it's worth, the blue version is very attractive and the logo with small red maple leaf is excellent. The red instantly shouts Canada because of the CN/CP use of red, but I'd go with the blue; much more distinctive!

I like them both. On the red one, if you did an all white cab, it would get away from the CP look enough.

We are getting alot of freelanced lines now focusing on the around the same area. I think this is a good thing to be honest. it is always nice to have others to share our ideas with.
Myself and another member already us a red and white paint, so i guess you can tell which I prefer! The only issues i see with both is: on the red: the white maple leaf is very large. If you get custom decals made you would have trouble fitting it on a smaller unit like a GP. The logo on the blue unit is very nice. I am not sure I really like the light blue in front. Maybe all dark blue no white strip and add white to the side of walkways.
If you PM me the art work for your logo, I would be happy to try and few different ideas for you.

Nick, You may want to rethink the white stripe over the traction motor duct and across the roof, it would be a major PITA to decal once, let alone your whole fleet! Just a sug tho... Jeff323, your roadname gave me a bit of a chuckle. A CN dispatcher out of Toronto has initials CRS and the guys joke that they mean "Can't Run Sh^t"...

Sean, that gave me a good chuckle. I might have to add that as graffiti on the side of a unit.

Use the top one for one of the sd40-2's and the red one as a modernized paint scheme on the others

There are things I like about both schemes. Why not use both and say one is the older paint scheme and the other is the newer one?
Do you plan on modelling this at all?
Also, could you give a little more info as to which lines it operates on?
Maybe a roster?
Just asking :-).

I like the red scheme. The length of the lettering was mentioned as a problem for small units. Boston and Maine had its name spelled out on the long hoods of the GP38-2, and 40-2, in the last per Guilford scheme. They solved the problem by stacking the 3 words on the Geeps.
Let us know more about your plans. This interests me because I work out of Montreal. You mentioned connecting with Guilford. My freelance is based on taking over their rail operations, when they decided to get into planes.

What other units do you plan on adding to the roster Nick? There are plenty of used Dash 7 & 8's on the market these days.
