The pilot work will start tonight adding DA pin lifters, minor sanding, rear pilot plate, plow. Lastly will be the mess of a frame, test it at my club and get it running good. Im still in need of a new handrail set, 2600 gallon fuel tank, and rear roof radiator grills. Thanks for looking!

This is why modelers are needed now-a-days. To repair and bring back to life sad and abused models who just want to be normal and part of a good home again. I love fixer uppers, and this is a totally awesome example of what can be done. Great job so far and I am looking forward to seeing this completed.
Thanks for sharing Eric.

That poor thing looks like it was in a real life wreak Eric. Were those headlights in the nose in the first pic?

i still can't believe that you got it so cheap and that someone actually did this to an expensive loco. Its like taking a bently and adding a huge spoiler, decals and red rims to it. total waste.

Wow! Is that blue painter’s tape used on the wiring? Looks like someone’s ambitions were beyond their skills. You got a great deal despite the rough condition of the shell and handrails.

UPDATE: A little set back on the GP15. Attempting to order parts from Athearn has become a nightmare. The parts dept. is part time now and takes weeks to return calls. I decided to strip the sill, I wasnt satisfied with the touch up I did. Im out of scalecoat BN green so I have an alternative which it will be a few shades off but does a great finish. With dullcoat, weathering will barely notice.
- That IS painters tape on the wires! I pulled the poor attempt at lighting and noticed he wired everything in through the postive leads. So pulled everything and discovered I have to rewire the motor due to shortened wires. Thats an easy job!

What a mess! It boggles my mind what people do to models. Your ability to repair an engine that damaged is quite impressive sir. Good job!

UPDATE: The sill has been repainted and the unit is going back together tonight! Im sure glad I stripped it, was able to get all except a couple minor glue globs off. Looks 100 times better! I did procure a new powered frame for it also. Lastly will be adding MU hoses, air lines, rusting the wheels, and getting new handrails. Ill finish with decals, dullcoat, touch ups. Pretty happy with it! Pics will follow sometime soon

UPDATE!!! Well here is the main body at 95% complete. Still need Rad grills. Added Cal Scale pin lifters in DA brackets, DW knuckle holders, DW air lines, Athearn MU hoses, DW plow, DW can antenna and proper horn to match the 1380. Styrene rear pilot plate, Tichy grabs for the MU hose holders, DW bolt castings, DA Pyle headlight on the rear. Cannon ECAFB box, still need to add cab vent, DA side mirrors/ wind deflectors. The sill was fully stripped, sanded, repainted. The nose came from an Athearn BN unit, The cab is the original along with the sill, long hood. Everything will be blended with a decent weathering and a new powered frame which will be here shortly. Enjoy!

That thing got its butt kicked. Can't believe things people can do to expensive models. Glad you could bring it back.
