Hello gents, thought I'd share a cheap rebuild/upgrade project and my first since I got my workbench back open. Recently I got a Wheeling and Lake Erie SD40-2 #7737 from a supplier down in Texas for a great deal. After receiving it I have to say it became a pain. It took 2 days to get the clipped on fuel tank to come off to have access to the motor but with some prying I managed to get it off. My first problem was WLE 7377 didn't keep its original assigned road number. When it was recently rebuilt earlier this year from the GATX leaser scheme to the WLE Rio Grande style scheme, it was assigned number 6384. I then purchased Microscale set 87-1318 and began decaling. I just completed the cab, which was also a pain to remove from the carbody as it is held in by 2 clips that attach to the windows. A bit of hard pushing (a bit more than I like to) was needed to remove the cab. So far I have $50 invested into this project. I just completed the numberboards today and and working out what kind of DCC decoder to hard wire into the locomotive. Does anyone know if the new Bachmann chassis have the motor already isolated or not?
