I am looking at reviving a new proto-freelanced road. It can't really be new if its be revived.
Anyway I posted about this road maybe a year or so ago. To make it viable, I need to reopen at least one business along the line and add track into another. I do not have a name for this road yet. But I am thinking of folding it into a larger corporation that also owns the Copper State Railway. Something like TransRail North America. I like that.
This new railroad is located in north eastern Illinois. It is the old EJ&E line that runs from the old J north yard in Waukegan, IL and ends in Mundelein at an old tower (not there anymore) called Leithton. I do not think Leithton is even a town. Anyway, the scenario is that when CN purchased the J, they did not want to bother with the tracks from Leithton out to Waukegan and put that portion up for sale. TransRail North America purchased this line. The line is approximately 15 miles long. It serves seven industries along its route. Two in Mundelein, one in Roundout and four in Waukegan, IL.
WAUKEGAN:
Power Plant
Cement
Gypsum
Chemical
ROUNDOUT:
Road Building Materials
MUNDELEIN:
Plastic Pellets
Materials Company
I still have to do a lot of research on the industries. I have to use a little proto-freelance license to reopen the cement plant in Waukegan. Also to put tracks in for the gypsum plant. I am not sure if the power plant is even still in operation. I may need to reopen it as well, but I think the UP operates that service. Like I said, I have some research to do. In Roundout there is very little traffic, but sometimes a few open hoppers. In Mundelein, the biggest customer is Medline. I have to find out what they are taking in. I think it is plastic pellets. Not sure though. The other place in Mundelein is a materials company. Not much going on there, but there is a one or two car side located at this site and it looks like a good size operation.
Track is still in great condition due to when the J owned and maintained it. Power is just going to be two or three locomotives. Maybe a couple CF7's and a GP9. Still working out the details of what I want there. I want a mish mash of early power though. Junky looking stuff like what I see here on the Carolina Coastal Railway. This railroad is still considered a startup venture for TransRail North America so not throwing a lot into it until it starts showing signs of profit.
Interchange is with CN, CP and UP.
The west side of the yard in Waukegan is the Metra North Commuter Station. Yard still has a turn table, but I doubt it's still usable. Maybe. I am considering this operation as my N-Scale side of modeling trains. Copper State Railway being my HO side. Both roads under the parent company of TransRail North America.
So far I do not have a name for it yet. Concept only on paper right now. My first run at a name was WAUKEGAN RAIL SERVICE.
