I bought some Bowser 100 Ton Coal hoppers off Ebay and they were not packed very well. Two of the cars sustained damage to the end detail. Are there kits available to repair these? The ends are molded to the car so would have to be removed and new ladders, grabs, and detail added. Any thoughts on how to repair them would be helpful!
Thanks, Matt

No there isn't. But, this could give you the opportunity to do fine detailing and spruce up the freight car!

Riss2509,
Do you have any parts in particular I could use?

Post some pics so I can take a look. If the damage is to the end framework you can do 1 of a few things. Post some shots and let's have a look!

Well that does not look so bad, I would look into Evergreen Plastic for the damaged grab irons on the sides and for the sill plate you could probably look into the same supplier for the proper shape also; do a repaint as if it was a R.I.P repair and then the color would not need to match or with careful painting and weathering you could get it so close only you would know.

Plastruct and Evergreen shapes could be used to repair the structural damage, ladder rungs and grab irons are replaced with phosphor bronze or brass wire. I would not try to match the paint, but touch up with the basic color, to make it look like a recent repair. Corner damage is common on the real thing, so those repairs are considered running repairs and are done quickly to keep the car in service until its next regular shopping at a repair facility.

Who cares if you use some structural shaped pieces of styrene. The trial cars take all types of abuse. I have seen carmen take L shape steel to repair those end parts, like when a car gets hit in the corner. Sometimes the customer attaches the car moving winch on the corner instead of the designed locations and boogers it up.
