Andy,
That would be a great car to use, but it is not available as a model and I do not want to have to scratch build my fleet of concentrate cars. It would be perfect though.

So, how does the coupled trainline move when the car rotates? Is it just twisted over and around the couplers? Those cars only turn a maximum of 180 degrees, right? I mean they are rotated to dump (say clockwise) and then returned to the upright position (counterclockwise).
Nice decal artwork Brian.

The trainline hose thing is something I am trying to figure out as well. No matter what side the trainline is on, ie same side in line with each other or opposite side, they still will get twisted over the coupler. From the photos I have see of rotary coupler cars, the trainline is not any longer to accommodate for the twist.

The trainline hose should always be on the same side seeing as all rotary wagons need to be orientated in the same direction. Generally rotary dumpers do not do a full 360' rotation, 180' max and then rotates back the way it came. BHPBIO Car Dumper 4 video

From the photos that Mike posted, that is pretty much what I had figured. Now I have to go back and pull the air hoses off and reposition them. Another learning experience.

Brian Check these out for brake pipe hoses by Pacific Western Rail Services called Magnalock Brake Lines: www.pwrs.ca/announcements/view.php?ID=7440They also come in N scale. With over 700 cars & locos it's going to go VERY slowly converting all of them. LOL

OK, so I dug around on the internet and found enough photos to cover both of my GP35's. Both will be from VMV. VMV units 3516 and 3600 will now become CSR 900 (ex VMV 3600) and 901 (ex VMV 3516).
Heritage before entering service on CSR.
GM&O 646 - ICG 2543 - VMV 3600 - CSR 900 Started life as a phase Ia2 GP35. No longer resembles that phase. GM&O 612 - ICG 2511 - VMV 3516 - CSR 901 Started life as a phase IIc GP35. Still resembles this phase.
I am more exited about starting these two than the FERROMEX unit, so these two will be my Wednesday night diversion modeling project.

Brian, just out of curiosity, what does the significant other think of all the train projects and modeling?

Mine doesn't either, Brian, she just tells her sister, "Well, at least I know where he is."

Robert,
Exactly. My wife knows exactly where I am all the time. She knows that right after work, I am home.

My wife understands I am addicted to modeling. I really am and I love it. She cannot do anything about it.

Well yesterday was "Work on anything I want Wednesday". I was in the mood to start in on the CSR GP35m's. I have two of them to work on. One will be a phase Ia and the other a phase II. I got the frame on the phase Ia cut last night. Still need to cut some more off, but the major cutting is done. I still need to do the phase II frame.
But I got started on them. I'll probably work on the phase II frame tonight. I can't work on my SD40-2's until I get spare cab and sub base. I already have a nose. What I need to do is build up test kit of the cab, sub base and nose so when I cut all this off the Athearn model, I'll have an assembly of what is going there to test fit to make sure all my cuts are just right for a perfect fit up.
So in the mean time I'll work on the GP35m's. I also bought a Kato GP35 shell off ebay. The phase I1 that I am working on has the shorter inertial intake screens. I'll cut the ones off the spare shell and shorten them.
I will not be doing a video on this build. Instead I am taking photos and putting it all together for an RPM presentation.

When Athear releases the GP39-2, I will get two of them and yes they will get the high cabs. Those will probably be a ways off though. It will be a very involved build.

Again, yesterday was "Work on anything I want Wednesday". The GP35m's are progressing well. On Monday I received from my good friend Tom Austin an Athearn 2600 gallon fuel tank from their GP38-2 models to use on my phase IIc Gp35m. So last night I finished cutting the frames. I also cut the phase Ia2 fuel tank down 7 scale inches off each end and then glued it all back together. Happy to say it is dead on for length with the end sheets glued in place. For the 2600 gallon phase IIc tank, I had to add an additional 0.060" to the inside cavity sides for it to fit snug onto the frame. It is centered and now there is 0.060" more depth to the tank. Look great.
Next Wednesday I will start building the frame fascia. Add the fish belly and frame rails to the phase Ia2 and the frame rails to the phase IIc. At the pace I am going on these two for one day a week, I may actually be able to get them done as well as the presentation before the RPM meet in Savannah, GA next April. Although, there is a possible project coming up here at work that may severely eat into my modeling time.
