I had the opportunity to ride an excursion yesterday through the Lehigh Gorge, Jim Thorpe PA yesterday. After the trip I took some up-close shots of the SD50 that powered the excursion. I'm always looking to get pilot and truck details and thought I might share these just in case there are others looking for some details... Bearing detail on the front truck - conductor's side. Emergency Brake details - HTC truck. Brake is applied in this case. I had never noticed the anti-climber lights (the square opaque panels right below the two hatches). Front Pilot details. Front step showing top step light placement, the piping out to the air connections, and a telemetry-type speed detection device. The history on this SD50 - built for MP #5033, transferred to UP as 5033. Purchased by Reading, Blue Mountain, & Northern, repainted but retained 5033. RBMN owns the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, so the unit was repainted and renumbered as #426. Here is #426 last night at the former CNJ station in downtown Jim Thorpe. The location in front of the station is the site of the filming of the movie "Molly Maguires" which documented the groups migration to the US from Ireland and their affect on the coal region of Pennsylvania.
