I've installed a Tsunami Decoder in a NJT U34CH and need some help with finding room for a speaker. pinterest.com/pin/130956301637111416/I originally thought I could fit a 1 inch round speaker in the cab, but as the picture I have linked shows, there are two weights on the front and back that take up most of the room. I've seen others mount a oval speaker in the rear of the engine, but I would need to know what to get. Thanks for any help!

I was just going to make the same suggestion, cut/remove the weight! You may, want to put a drop of RTV silicone or caulk under the speaker. Just to act as a insulation, to help reduce nasty vibration. That's a nice install! Thanks for sharing.

Haven't gotten a chance to test the sound yet, but when I do I will record some video and post it. Here is a front shot of the U34CH. I just put windshield wipers on. pinterest.com/pin/130956301637215320/The comet cab car is still in progress. This is what it looks like so far. pinterest.com/pin/130956301637195083/ I've been primarily focused on the crappy Walthers trucks. I found a guy who suggested to take brass piping and glue it into the plastic holdings for the axle. I did a few, here is a shot of one of them. pinterest.com/pin/130956301637195098/If anybody is interested, I can write up what I had done. Picks up the power from the track much nicer. I'm getting a TCS lights only decoder and keep alive for it. I will post pictures when I get it installed.

Thanks for the info. I have actually talked to him about the U34CH and comet cars before. Very good advice.

I found the post that led me to modify the trucks on the Walthers comet cars. He talks about the Amfleet cars, but if you notice, the trucks are exactly the same. This guys tutorial has great photos and instructions to do the job. geekhobbyist.wordpress.com/2011/12/26/walthers-amfleet-truck-modification/Only difference for me was I kept the brass piping a solid piece, instead of cutting the pieces into bushings. I feel, for now, that works well. Next post I will have pictures of the comet cab car dcc decoder install.

DCC lights only decoder and keep alive taped down on the inside of the comet cab car. pinterest.com/pin/130956301637235953/Drilled small holes through the weight and the frame to connect to the track pickups, then soldered the wires right to the metal pickups of the trucks. (Make sure the trucks are setup right, so they pick up each side of the track.) Next steps are to hook up LEDs and fiber into the holes drilled through the end of the cab, test the DCC decoder and then wire it up. There is a lot of room inside the cab car to install the DCC decoder, which makes the install fairly easy.

Working on installing a nose and head lights into the U34CH. Here it is in progress. pinterest.com/pin/130956301637358214/Still a bit of work to be done, I may need to mill the weight a little to fit in all the LEDs and fibers.
