Hi Group,
Last week at a train show I bought an NYC RS-1 (Atlas Classic). The guy said it was new in box, so I didn't ask to test run it (not that there really was anywhere to test it) but when I got home I noticed it ran kind of strangely. On DC track, it slows down intermittently when being run at voltages less than 12V (wide open, it runs fine). That is, it runs for 3-4 seconds fine, slows down, resumes speed, slows down again, etc.
I opened it up and the circuit board appears to be the original (not entirely sure); the truck leads have been soldered to the board and the lights removed, but other than that, the engine appears stock.
My thinking is that the board perhaps has some sort of internal fault? Never had this problem before and can't think of what might be causing it to run strangely like this. Guessing I should just go ahead and replace the PC board?
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Peter.

Easy way to check is to bypass the board, jumpering directly from the truck leads to the motor wires. If it stops, the board is at fault. If not, it could be a bind in the drive train, an electrical pick-up issue, or an issue with the motor. It could also be as simple as old, stiff grease in the trucks causing drag at low speeds.
