Ok, so it isn't exactly "new", but I just re-discovered it when I opened a box of my old train stuff. An Athearn Genesis SD70 lettered for Norfolk Southern #2537. I picked her up some time ago at a hobby store in Orlando, Florida. She was always a good runner, but those were my early days of model railroading (2002 or so?). I was young and dumb, and didn't take great care of it. My goal for this one is to dust her off, clean her up, and add it to my collection (even though I no longer model NS). What you see in this pics is the unit straight out of storage, no dusting or clean up yet: As you can see the unit is a bit roughed up. The horn broke off, but I want to replace it anyways. The snowplow was also removed, the stock one was ugly and unrealistic, I purchased a new one from DW, but lost it (go figure). It also only has one sunshade, some of the paint is flaking off the handrails.. The list of problems goes on. Should provide an interesting project and a good way to re-introduce myself to the hobby.

That looks like something I will have to look for at the GTE in Indy tomorrow... Christian

I got my NS SD70 when I was 8. at least you still have yours. a lot of the broken parts were glued on with a glue stick ( I was not to smart experimenting with the 100+ locomotive but I learned). I weathered it with this crap paint . The first locomotive i got was an atlas RS1 with some track . I still have that but the detail was molded on so it was less prone to break. the SD70 had grabs fine handrails and lift rings that broke off. I learned my lesson by weathering old athearn cars or lifelike junk. Now my weathering is a lot better . I learned how fragile the detail on the locomotives were and I took care of them. Now I add almost every part that is missing or that is unprototypical. like the atlas RS3 in Susquehanna I added the smooth fuel tank with the air tank in the middle added the horn off the cab front rebuilt the footbords . the tank was rebuilt last week so the pictures of the locomotive on this fourm inclued the orignal tank.

I have the 2537. With the handrails i took a hobby knife and scraped off the yellow paint and repainted it with a bright yellow by hand.
