Now that the old year is gone and the horizon is better for the new year, what are your planned projects for the year?
I am starting an SP TEBU unit, an SP RSD 5 with the large stack, and a Southern U36B and mate.
I have most of the materials I need except for the TEBU.
Happy New Year to all and hope that 2009 is better than 2008.

To actually finish anything! Because of my job change and my wife becoming sick, it would sure be nice!

To have the new layout up and operating. Then get back to the finer details.

I echo the comments about finishing my projects for 2009.
Here's what's on my workbench, along with what remains to be done:
- Atlas DW&P RS11. Factory painted, just needs correct detailing.
- Two Atlas Southern high-nose SD35's. Following along with the online clinic.
- P2K GP7 as CN 4804. I've gotten as far as adding Athearn Flexicoil switcher trucks to the drive and priming the shell. Still have to bend correct handrails, add additional louvres, add spark arrestors, a CN horn, sunshades, and paint.
- P2K NBSR GP38-2. Haven't started this one yet but a used Conrail GP38-2, correct steps and Railflyer decals have been procured. Just need to start it.
- Bachmann Spectrum H-16-44 in CPR grey and maroon. Keeping the factory paint but detailing correct for CPR. Heavy weathering job to be done. Funny thing is, it's one of the smoother drives I own.
- Athearn RTR GP35 as NBSR GP38-3. Started with a used $15.00 unit. Wow, what a project - thought this one would be easy, except Rail Power didn't do door latches or rivets well. Wasn't going to bother until I built up a complete Cannon nose/cab/subbase assembly, then the shell looked out of place. I cut down and modified a P2K GP30 long hood to replace the original. At this point I just have to put it all together, then add walkway tread, etched steps, correct detailing, and paint.
- Atlas/Roco and Bachmann GP40's as weathered leasers. I'm actually more-or-less done these units with the exception of weathering and window glazing. An effort to use up some old stuff in the parts box. I'll post pics soon.
- MDC RS3 as N&W/ex-NKP. Randy, this one's yours. I started with Randy's used RS3 which has had almost all correct detailing done. I've added marker lights, brake chain and better wheels. Still needs handrails. Currently in primer but will be a very weathered N&W unit (with NKP paint peeking out here and there) when done
- NBSR SW1200 from P2K model. Haven't started but have procured a used N&W model as a starting point.
- Mantua 4-6-2 as a CPR loco. Just have to paint and decal it.
- P2K GP9 and Front Range GP9 as GTER 1758 and 1759. Chopnosed, detailed, ready for paint.
Hey, SPNut (original poster) , I have a copy of the Model Railroader (Aug 88?) issue that covers the Seaboard U36B's and MATEs. Do you need it for your project?

My plan is to get at least 5 models built before the Naperville show in October. The CNJ SD40 (CR P/O), READING GP30 (CR P/O) & a PC SD45 (CR P/O). Then two CR SD40-2's. I would like to also finally get started on a set of four PC F units. A lot to do on those though.
Along with that I would like to finally get my N-Scale modules built or at least the bench work and foundation all done before the end of the year.

I have also decided to add "NO NEW PROJECTS!" and "ONE PROJECT AT A TIME", whether in the car world or the model world. Anything new will have to wait, and I find these days that time spent on multiple projects seems to be about as fruitful as running around like a headless chicken. Matthew

1) Finish planning and start laying track on the upper deck of my 16x13 layout.
2) Model an EFCB (Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil = Central of Brazil Railroad) S1 and an EFCB RS1.
3) Detail EFVM (Vitoria a Minas Railroad) rolling stock.

I plan to actually do something. With three small children (all girls), a wife, and work, it has been very hard to find time to do any modeling. I have two old GP40-2 projects from several years ago that just don't measure up so hopefuly I'll have the opportunity to re-do them this year. Maybe this weekend I can get started with some underframe deatialing at least and work at a slow, steady pace from there...might even qualify as a 'cheap build'.
