Hi everyone, I am trying to secure LEDs to the Kato light tubes for an older Dash 9. What or does anyone recommends?

I cut the light tube off just inside the nose and attached a surface mount LED right on the cut (and polished) end using some Krystal Kleer.
If I were to do it again, I'd scrap the light tube altogether, hollow out the ditchlight casting a bit better and insert the Surface mount LED right inside the casting. That cut angle on the end of the light tube that sticks up inside the ditchlight still doesn't transmit light very well, even with a brighter LED mounted closer to the end.
