I seem to remember someone making a HO model of one of the NFLD units. I'll do some digging and see if I can find out who it was.

I've always had a soft spot for the NFLD railway, although I know next to nothing about it. The only thing I never liked or understood was the sheet metal over the trucks...sort of reminds me of an M4A1 Abrams tank.
The neatest part I think was the dual gauge yard in Port aux Basques where two RSC-14's were assigned to shunt the standard gauge cars before they had their trucks swapped out. We had dual qauge here on PEI during the 20's and 30's while CN got a foot hold.

Yep, all that extra work was one of the main reasons the NL railway had a hard time turning a profit. Dad remarked to me CN was mildly shocked at how much things turned around once they went to containers and flatcars with the reorganization as Terra Transport. I still see a few of those bright green containers from time to time with the arrows pointing in opposite directions. Dad used to joke that the symbol was chosen because the railway never knew if it was coming or going. Along with the operators manual, I also have a EMD 567 series engine overhaul manual, along with a small set of wheels on an axle with the bull gear, turned out by the machinists during the last few months of the railways existence.

Have to thank you for those dimensions. Its definetly on my build list. I have a couple pics, and "ish" dimensions, so this will help out. Welcome to the Diesel Detailer

Here is a full-color photo of the static display in St. John's. This is actually an NF110, the only difference being the extended headlight nacelles with the locomotive number in the sides (missing in the photo). With spark arrestors. This is perhaps the "plainest" of all the CN color schemes: The best (imo) CN paint scheme. Notice the 875hp G8 "pup" in between. These were used on the light gauge rail spur lines to the small communities along the coasts. More "pups" in the original CN paint scheme: The final incarnation as TerraTransport. This was the 9th inning transformation as a flatbed/container service intended to eliminate the costly transition from standard gauge to narrow gauge trucks when the boxcars hit Newfoundland. Many of these locomotives also had TerraTransport written on the side of the body or cab as well as the arrows. It was common to refer to the locomotives as 800 class or 900 class, not G8 or NF110/210. I remember dad going away for weeks at a time when they were busy pulling up all the rails in 1989. It was bittersweet, like taking an axe to the thing that had fed and clothed his family for so many years. He told me that when the decision was made to shut the railway down, newly overhauled 567C 12cyl engines were simply tossed away like trash. Scrapping one for wire was good for a decent party though. A lot of the brass bells went to, well, the "brass". Working stiffs like him were lucky to get a builders plate off the side. My brother still has one as a memento.
