The high hooded SD40-2 on the NW was relatively rare compared to it's brother (Southern). This started as a BB NW low nose that was stripped and redone. Attachments:

All done, with the exception of the Crystal Clear which had to be redone. Attachments:

And last one. There are many things I could have done (like replacing the stock handrails) but I wanted to keep it pretty simple. While not perfect (and once the Crystal Clear was redone), I'm pretty happy with it. Sorry for the low ball photos. Not working with much on the camera front Attachments:

Very nice work! Always liked the high hood loco's of the N&W, SOU and NS.

Nice Job! I wouldn't mind having one of these on my roster. Earl is out...

Nice looking unit there. One of my favourite loco's is the NW SD40-2 in both high and low nose form.
You might want to look at 6axlepwr's youTube video's on making the triple clasp trucks if you want to do that part.

Hi ladderpipe, Nice job on the unit, I always enjoy seeing how everyone takes different approaches to detailing there units. I think that is one of the great things about this hobby, you can do as little or as much as you like. It is what ever makes you happy! Keep up the good work Erik

You have done a great job with this and it looks nice just like it is.. But I am going to try to make you think about the possibilites..
You could take this engine and remove the handrails and replace with either the Athearn plastic ones or brass. You could add the Cannon tread and fans. Remove the mounting tabs on the sides and fill the holes. While the shell is off you could rework the frame a bit and add some details and also the trucks.
Basically this engine is complete but what I am saying is dont let this stop you especially as your skills grow, this engine can still be upgraded in the future if you ever feel like it. Many people have engines that this can be done too. Look at it as a challenge for you.

Almost ready to be painted Hi ladderpipe, I see that you soldered your handrail to the stanchions. Where did you get the metal stanchions from? Very nice work, I will be doing one of these. It would be great to have the handrails soldered, it would be like the real thing. Thankx for in advance for your help BLacie54

Almost ready to be painted I think I answered my own question, those are the blue box stanchions. I took another look at them. Blackie54
