I'm getting in over my head in projects, but I like to keep myself busy. I have a kato SD45 that is going to end up(hopefully) looking like this: www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=88721I already removed the fans, and am assembling a list of the detail parts that I need. Photos soon! -Andrew

Here is what the SD45 looks like right now. I am going to try to go to the LHS today so I can get the parts. I emailed Shawmut about decals, so should have those done once he gets back to me. The wheels are done by painting the wheels using earth floquil paint. Once that is dry I use oils that are on a paper plate to stipple the oil on(Putting the oils on the paper plate extracts some oil from the oils maing them dryer and they stick better. I learned this from method from Brian Banna's website. www.6axlepwr.com ). Burnt umber and black were used.

As far as I know, it is still in operational order. The most recent picture I can find of it was August of this year.

From the angle in the photo you can't see the front headlights & numberboards, does it have one, or is that a former high hood that has been nipped & tucked?

I'm interested in this build as I think this unit is a former SCL/CSX unit. Post some more photos of your progress.

I don't know if this picture thing will work or not, but here's my image of Sister MRL SD45 #8941 showing the headlight arrangement. Taken at the fuel pad at Avon, Indiana back during the CSX/NS/CR takeover meltdown days of 1999. Standard headlight in the numberboard, but with the smaller BN style (the ones that they have on their SD70Mac's) ditch light mounting plates above the deck of the walkway. rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1435163

Says "Potentially Dangerous Request" on the photo, whatever that means.

If you have a Micromark drill press and a simple jig it's pretty easy! Hmmm, I need one of those. I have 5 more SD45's awaiting the same handrail procedure.
