I'd considered an 8 axle HTCR equipped large modern EMD myself. If the N scale units are anything like the HO, then you should be able to extend the truck using parts from a spare truck.

I don't plan on it being a D-D loco but B-B+B-B, I'll have something to post sometime early next year...
So far the current roster of N scale locos stands at 5x SD70Ms and 7x SD80MACs but that'll continue to grow to eventually be the same as the roster I have written down (some 167x locos).
Putting together plans atm for the beginnings of the layout, I'll have that posted up when I have more to share.

Just thought I'd post an update.... The first 7 SD80MACs have been sent to the workshops for a lick of paint and detailing, not sure when they'll be ready to be shown.... These are the next 6 SD70Ms to go thru the paint/detail process and will be numbers 4003-4008 filling out the 8 unit SD70M roster. The main detailing revolves around the pilots and fans, as per OH&S practices in Australia the grab irons have all been removed as safety harnesses are required when working above 2m so they cannot be used anymore (platforms at the workshops and provisioning facilities have replaced the need to climb the irons). The nose door windows have also been removed as GDRMCo ordered them without the windows. There are 8 of these fuel tankers so far completed, these will be joined by more as time allows to complete a fuel supply train that will serve the 4 iron ore mines. More to come!

I always think row upon row of models looks cool, never figured out why? I think its awesome that you are modelling the complete number series of a particular model of loco.

Well that's 8 of 8 SD70Ms, with the SD80MACs I have 7 of 152.....and so far I've got 1 of 30 SD70MACs. Big roster!
But yeah, I agree on the lineup of models looking cool. Once I get the yard and workshops built I'll take some 'publicity' shots of the GDRMCo locos sitting outside it.

ir1799, currently got a bit of a backlog of stuff here I'm working my way thru paying off and the way I've got things organised it's been easier to just have Brian have things sent directly to him, works out cheaper too buying thru the supplier he uses. Thanks for the offer tho! Funnily enough this livery started out as a NS Original NS Heritage livery rip off (heh) seen here: But because I only gave Jim at Highball the size of the decals I needed and not the scale he did them as HO decals and so the orange stripe was made wider, this meant the black stripes had to be dropped and it ended up as the scheme you see on the SD70Ms. Hopefully 4003 will be done soon, it's the first of the units to feature white/red LED marker lights

Just thought I'd share this drawing of a planned 'Phase 2' version of the SD80MAC for my roster. As there's 152 SD80's on the roster spanning 1996 to 2012 build dates I want something to differentiate between early and late SD80s. (The 2009 onwards built units are built locally using the SD80 jigs under license) From 2006 on the SD80 model for GDRMCo got updates which included many SD70ACe developed parts such as the improved 710, electronics, traction motors, software, etc and included a power bump to 5300hp. For this Phase 2 version of the SD80MAC I've used the cab from the Ph2 SD70Ms which I'm considering adding an isolation seam to the nose, I will use the blower duct cover from the left side of the SD70M on the right of the SD80MAC (ala 4300hp SD70MACs) and you can see it behind the first and second handrails after the step down on the right side. For me this adds a bit of uniqueness and gives me a GDRMCo specific loco. Thoughts? EDIT Just been thinking further and I'll be going with an isolated version of the cab, being in N scale I'll simply need to scribe in a groove in the nose for the isolation seam common on EMD locos.

As the completion of the GDRMCo 11 unit SD70M fleet comes closer I thought I'd share a coming project for the 11th member of the class, #4011. Like Conrail did with their SD60 #5544 this unit is the testbed for GDRMCo to check out the EMD isolated cab before it committed to ordering the AC version of the SD70M for 1994. This project modelling wise will be a quick and easy one, I've got a spare SD80MAC shell here I'll be swapping the cab onto a SD70M and after paint and details it'll be ready to go. For the freebie HO hoppers, I've sourced another decal maker and am in the process of getting it all ready, just waiting on some other stuff before I get those decals made.

Thats going to be a nice fleet when you get them all done. When you have more than one free-lanced model completed its always nice to see them coupled up and pulling a complete train.. I need to get on the ball and finish mine now..

Bit more progress on the 6 SD70Ms currently in the paint/detail shop. New fans that will be painted, handrails behind the shells are waiting to be painted and 3 of the 6 walkways still need paint. Nearly there on this lot, after these will come the 7 SD80MACs, a SD40-2, another 5 SD70Ms, a SD70MAC and 3 SD45s. And then a bunch more.....
