The TEBU's saw road service. The SP had a standard run delivering rock from the quarries to the customers who bought the rock. They were also used in other areas where the traffic was slow and track was not up to the heavy loads of the larger engines.

They were connected to specially fitted GP40-2 units. The TEBU was used for the traction motors and fuel storage. Therefore the mother units had to be set up with pumps for the fuel transfer.

They were rebuilt by MK in Boise using old U25B frames and trucks. The hoods were built new and the electrical system set up to run with the EMD GP40-2 mother units.

David
I have purchased an Atlas U23B to use as the basis for the unit. It should be here today or tomorrows mail. Once I get it I will start planning the modifications. I probably start detailing the walkway down first.
I am out of work and the $$$ are an issue to purchase any new parts. I am going to start looking into my inventory to see what I have and start from there.
The pictures you added from IL or IND taken in August, do you know what their going to be used for by the new owners? If they are going to be there for a while, I might go take some additional pictures or measurements.
Can you tell me a little more of where the units are and is security tight to get close to them?

Dave S.
Thanks for posting the additional pictures. They show some detail that I did not have.

Those two unit are at the NRE rebuild center in Mt. Vernon IL. I was there over a week end and they were closed, But I would guess with the proper way of going about and telling them your reason, they might let you in to get close and personal with them. They were located on the north west corner of the back lot when I was there next to the UP main line. I'm a OTR trucker, So being in a spread axle drop deck and Freightliner classic road tractor. I just can't go every where! I did a search via the net on NRE, Mt Vernon Il. and found their address then checked a area map to see if there was room for me to get in and turn around. I had plenty of time on that trip to Missouri and left early so I could shoot trains some where, LOL! NRE National Railway Equipment is only a few miles from the interstate. I would go by the front office and ask for permission. I have seen photos from where others have been inside the complex. I would assume they will eventually become grounds for a new GenSet locomotive. BTW, Your welcome on the photos!
