Its not much, but I wanted to show some pics of my modular layout. Its based on the city of Greenville, Michigan, from 1999-2004 era. The main industry is Electrolux. They shipped lots of hi cube boxcars full of refrigerators as well as recieving tank cars and plastic pellet covered hoppers. Greenville had a Federal Mogul plant that shipped out scrap, as well as a fertilizer dealer and a Tower Automotive plant that shipped out auto parts. In 2007ish, Electrolux closed their plant and moved to Mexico. All the other shippers had stopped using rail by then. The line to Greenville was torn up in 2009. I hope to include the rest of the town when we move out of our apartment and get a house. Heres the pics: House and vacant lot along the ROW: Another view: Until I get my Grand Rapids Eastern GP38 and my Mid Michigan GP9 done, this Central Michigan U23B serves as my power. Here it takes loaded boxes back to Grand Rapids. The corner of the massive Electrolux warehouse can be seen in the back. Im in the process of custom building the structure.

Great start. Even though there isn't a lot of it your scenery looks very impressive, quality. Thank you! ;D This is the first model railroad Ive built that Ive done scenery for. Ive had practice here and there but with this Im going nice and slow and making the results look as good as I can. Looks like a lot of operation packed into a small space. Great job! Oh it is, the road freight brings the cars into the former GTW yard and takes the cars set out back to Grand Rapids. The local yard job gets to work. The tanks and hoppers are put onto the two storage tracks. The boxcars are switched out and staged. Then the yard crew grabs the oldest tanks and hoppers and back down the long spur to the south side of the plant. After returning the empties are staged and then the local will service other businesses in town. Ive only been able to include the Electrolux switching right now. Heres a track plan for my layout as well as a map of the real Greenville. I had to compress it a lot! The only thing I wish I really had was a staging yard, but the girlfriend wouldnt let me build over her desk. Its hard to believe that a town that had its own yard job until the early 2000s now only has a walking trail where busy rail lines used to intersect. In the late 1970s, both C&O and Grand Trunk had road freights passing through this town. C&O sold the line from Elmdale (On the CSX Chicago-Grand Rapids-Detroit main) to Greenville to RailAmerica in 1986 and that was the birth of the Mid Michigan Railroad.

Hi Nick,
Nice start on the layout, keep up the good work! You did a great job of compressing the Greenville area.
How are your GRE and MM projects coming along?

My GRE loco is all detailed and ready for paint. I really am nervous about painting it. Ive never air brushed before at all. The MMRR GP9 is still a work in progress. Havent spent too much time with it. The snow will be blowing in soon and hopefully by spring, #24 will be ready for paint as well. I gotta get in touch with Jim at Highball to get some of the decal sets sent my way.

Looking good Nick! That miracle grow works wonders at times does it not?!!
Also like the Blue and Orange. Don't see that much on layouts...at least around here! LOL.
Thanks for posting your layout build. GTW really looks great on it!

My layout is set modern day so shortline power will be the norm on this former Turkey Trail line.

Thanks for the nice comments! Ben, I see your on the MMRR's sister line over in Merrill. What kind of traffic does Mid Michigan get over there. I dont hear much on that line.

Hey Nick, even though its the Mid Michigan, we get a variety of locomotives with Huron and Eastern, Central Oregon and Pacific and New England Central power all making an appearance. I would say 90% of traffic are grain hoppers for the elevators in Hemlock and Breckinridge with the occasional lumber haul for St. Louis.
