I am starting to work on a SD 70M Demonstrator that is the all burgandy. I purchased it new at the hobby store but I think it is a old engine. It was a DC version only. So I purchased a tsunami decoder and a couple of speakers for it. ;D ;D ;D I have started work on the frame for the speakers to fit, and man is that metal hard. I am waiting on a few parts from Athearn to go with the Details West parts I have. I may do a little weathering too, but I have not decided yet. I figure this might be new off the build line from EMD. I have installed a couple of tsunamis but never any DW parts. Will see how this goes. I will post a few pictures when something interesting pops up. Alan

Cool deal Alan, I have detailed about 4 of these with the Details West parts. There is some filing and sanding to do to make the items fit but the end result is awesome. Please ask any questions you might have on this build. Tomorrow I will post pics if you like on the detailing if you like.

Ok well I use Locophotos or any other web based engine pics and Diesle Era magazines as refrence and the DW web site and look at the pictures of the detailing of the 70's they did. Actually I saved the pics to my PC so I could enlarge them when I needed them... here is the web link to that page: www.detailswest.com/sd70_info.htmHere are a few pics of one of the 70's I have been working on: I also am doing 2 "new" 70's for a different railroad and I just installing the minimal of details for these. I will show those later.. I use regular CA like Zap-a-Gap or the new Microscale glue to attach those parts.Holds good for me.. Let me know what parts you are wanting to install for this build and any pictures you can share..

One other thing I do is glue the walkway to the frame once I have the frame milled the way I need it for. Because the details go on both the frame and underframe and it was just easier for me to do it that way...

Anthony, Thanks for the tip about the walkway and frame. I had seen where others had used CA glue, but was skeptical of it holding good. I have not checked your link, but if it is the one with the UP SD 70, I used that as a guide for parts to buy for my build. I have everything they suggested, except I went with the Detail Set for NS rather than UP. I hope to get down to the club tomorrow to work on the engine. We have a magnifing glass with a light there. It makes it a little easier to see. Thanks for the pictures, Alan

I got all the parts and painted them. Then I realized why I run engines out of the box as is. My eye sight is not the best, and my fingers are to big for little parts. I may try more later. Alan

Alan I am not stealing your thread on your build. I am sorry if it looks like that, I promise I ain't. Just wanted to show you a 70 with all the details west parts added.
Terry, good eye looking at all that. That is a toilet drain, though the detail part I used was not made to be a toilet drain but instead it was built to be used as a fuel gauge. This is the part from details west fuel filler set. I thought it looked pretty good when I set it in there. I am in San Diego,CA right now but when I get home I will post the DW number if it is needed.
Thanks Casey and Sammy. That was a lot of work to install all that I hope once I get it all painted that the detail don't disappear.

Yes I installed the tsunami. Two speakers, and man is it loud! I have not done anything, but add an antena to the top and paint a little soot on the top. I will try and get a few pics when I go to the club Sat. Alan

I was just amazed at now similar to Kato they are. I'm not familiar with genesis. I own 4 genesis SD70's for a brief period but never opened them up to look inside.
