A few weeks ago, I went to my LHS for a few odds and ends and this thing managed to follow me home too. These things are really nice, straight from the box. After only a few hours of work, here's a before and after. I model 1995 so the real ones were still in pretty fair shape then so I didn't go overboard on the weathering. A black wash to the grills and a little more weathering along with a new plow were the only things needed. Here is 840 at work with another 800 class unit on a K-Line stacker:

Very nice Sammy. The weathering adds a lot of realism to a model to make it look real. 1995, the warbonnets looked super good even with a little dirt on them. Same the BNSF has let them get so crappy.

Lookin' good Sammy, At the rate your shops are pouring out the new units, I'll have to stay a week to run them all! Really nice work, I like the loco washer stripes on the roofs. They were very prevalent by 1995. Mikie

Nice hobby shop find! Those Atlas C40-8W's are hard to find, I've been searching for a SF unit to model one of the units CN purchased. (and I want to do it up in SF patch paint of course) Great start to the weathering too! -Trevor

I picked one up in LMS blue, custom weathered with sound on evilbay. I love this unit and want to paint it in NS Horse head scheme in the future but before then I will look to add more of these awesome units if I can find them.
Nice work, always good to see a -8 in what has become a field of -9's and Gevo's!

Thanks gents for the kind words! I too have noticed that these are starting to get hard to come by. I'm glad I jumped at the chance to add this one to my roster!

I have stripped at least a half dozen of these Santa Fe's to repaint in Cascade green...oh wait Bn didn't have any. Kidding aside, I have the pleasure to know 2 of the finest Fe modlers around in Santa Fe Sammy and SantaFeMikie. Great guys and modelers.Looks awesome Sammy, but I will still rather run your BN train. ;D Hoover
