Thanks Randy, it looks marvelous. Couple quick questions, how did you remove the internal filter hatch, the blower housing and the grills? Oh and what horns and plows. ;D

To remove the parts I just drilled around the perimeter of the part and then broke through. Files were used for clean up. Horns are Miniatures by Eric H-20, and the plows were DW 234.

Managed to pick up two reasonably cheap Athearn BB shell's a couple of weeks back on that most well known of auctions sites, one of which, is a GP50. They are both very impressively painted for Southern and despite my love of NS I fear I may not be able to bring myself to strip them for re-painting. Both have been given a high short hood, from what I believe may be an Atlas shell, I have shown a comparison of the stock BB end and the high nose in one of the photo's below. The molded on details are not an exact match, and I need to acquire two headlight fittings but otherwise I think these are fine and intend to add just the specific details required to make them accurate enough. So stand-by... On this last photo you can see two BB frames that I have mounted a Kato motor on, I intend to do the same for these two as I have the motors but I left my plasticard at home and will not be able to finish the mountings for a few weeks so I will show those in the near future.

It was you that got them shells. I was watching those two Southern BB shells you got. I was going to buy them but I changed my mind. When I reconsidered about not buying them, they were gone. Nice purchase. Earl... Managed to pick up two reasonably cheap Athearn BB shell's a couple of weeks back on that most well known of auctions sites, one of which, is a GP50. Lol I'm afraid so. I wanted the high short hoods but have not been pleased at my attempts with C&C kits and with problematic eyes these were to good to pass up. I'm concentrating on new motors at the minute but lighting and details will follow, then sound hopefully.

Randy, weren't you going to build a GP49? just checked out that thread with some ideas in mind to.do one myself and just wondering if, like the GP59, they have fewer hood doors and the inertial filter hatch and engine compartment further back as a result of the shorter prime mover? Not really researched this one yet. Sent from my GT-I9100 using ProBoards

The high hoods on these look like and most likely are the old Front Range high hood kits from way back. These were available up to a few yrs ago. Rob
