After looking at some of the FP45s on this site, Im motivated to start my own FP45. I used to be a strict Santa Fe modeler and the FP45 was my favorite. I picked up this unit a long time ago because someone started detailing it and tried making a ficticious UP engine out of it. Its a dummy unit and think Ill keep it a dummy unit. The front pilot is broke a bit as well. It already had grab irons drilled so thats a plus. I had planned on using it for a ficticional railroad of my own but I think Id like to detail it and paint it into Wisconsin Central colors. I would like to use it with my CN/GTW trains, even though they didnt last until the CN days. Heres the prototype: And my model: Not sure what that gray smudge is from. Anyway what tips do the Santa Fe fans on here have to share? Also Id like to keep this a budget build too.

Good budget build! I built a BN F45 using a BB model, I had to cut out the dynamic brake grille and inertial grille and replace with the freight style grilles, but when it was done it looked pretty slick!
I would sug that you remove all the roof details, inertial hatch, blower stack, and fans. I'd also suggest you search out a laser cut set of window glass.
If you have someone with access to a mill, you can have him/her reshape the fuel tank or shave it right down so you can clad with more detailed plastic fuel tank sides.

Is it just me, or does the FP45 remind anyone else of a mid 80's Ford Bronco. I do like them, more than the Bronco, seriously, looks like a good low buck build, I look forward to progress.

I remember reading the post on that one, but now I cant find it. The unit is bathing right now in paint remover to get rid of that hideous yellow grime on it! Once dry, Ill start removing the rooftop details.
