Good evening, I'm planning my first build as noted by my title it will be Chessie System's gm 50 all 3 versions gold,cs,csx these will all be detailed and completely scratch built frame up as these will be a over time projects.I would really like any information for this particular locomotive as to hints,tips,parts and such please.OH any pictures would be a help too! I will hopefully order frames this week and post picture's and such when the appropriate time comes. Thank you John Joseph

Looking forward to seeing your work. With the exception of the special paint scheme, GM50 shared details in common with other Chessie GP40-2's of that particular vintage (Ph. 1a). As originally painted, the "B&O" letters were not the same height as the "GM50" below it until 1983 when the unit was repainted. The MU hoses were also painted gold at that time. In 1984, she was repainted again only this time in the standard Chessie System scheme and was numbered 4164. Here is a picture of her as CSXT 6063. As you can see, there have been some changes including the relocation of the horn, the loss of the "rock pilot", and it appears that the hood mounted bell has also been removed.

And the ditch lights I've order the frame for the gold version and am now searching for the truck sets that would be correct for it

I just got mine as an "Off-The-Shelf" Athearn RTR, and I've got a lot ahead of me! Good luck my friend, I cant wait to see your progress.

Looks like Athearn has them on back order. Have you tried the Bay of Evil (otherwise known as e-Bay)?

No I'm really trying to avoid eBay Are there close up shots of the fuel tank and trucks so I know how far I'm detailing ?

The frame has arrived I've got to strip it and I'd like to detail it around the fuel tank en such I'm not sure who's make it is it's a 1 piece tank frame combo pictures to Come when I'm happy with the progress
