I added a high nose and replaced the three radiator fans with two on an Athearn GP50 a couple of years ago but that was in my niaivity before I discovered the real joys of kitbashing!
I've considered giving it another go but as wiht my GP59 project I never got anywhere!

I haven't seen one modeled but this should be a nice build of a rare EMD. Earl...

A friend of mine built the Alaska Railroad Version at the club I belonged to in Anchorage, I have a picture someplace that I would need to scan and post.
I know he started with an Athearn GP50 and added a lot of Alaska Railroad specific parts to it.

Tom Busack modeled an MKT GP39-2 (which was in a GP49 carbody) in the April 1990 MR.
Aside from the low short hood and blower bulge (plus whatever SOU/NS details are necessary), modeling would be the same for this unit.

I have that MR article. With todays parts available one would be a bit easier to build but still a project. I'll see if I can find it and post it.

Were you thinking of doing one of those Randy? It'd make a nice addition to the hi-nose projects you have, but with the slightly newer (GP50ish) car body. Would be interesting to see.

Yes, I thought it would look nice with my SR GP40Xs and my SR GP-50.

I built one using the MR article quite some time ago. I later sold it to make room for new projects. Well worth the work involved. Mine was an ex-MKT painted UP.

It's a great looking locomotive comboed with GP40X's and GP50's. Man I wish Cannon made the 50 series radiator doors.

Is that kitbashed or scratchbuilt? I'm afraid my reply disappoints some of you. Actually both engines are brass imports so I don't modify anything on them. If you still want to see more pics, I will take some on the weekend. Please let me know.
