I believe this is actually a HR-412, Bombardier's replacement for the M-420.

After MLW stopped locomotive production, Bombardier bought the locomotive line and redesigned it, looking to make them more reliable and re-build market share. There were 2 locomotive models offered. The HR-412 (HR=High Reliability, 12=12 cyl 251), rated at 2000-2400 depending on options, was the replacement for the MLW M-420/424. The HR-616 (16 cyl 251) was a replacement for the M-630, and was built with a Draper Taper type body. After lackluster sales, there was talk of a possible redesign using Kato (not the model company!) electrical equipment, but none were built. Bombardier then announced they were leaving the Locomotive buisiness to concentrate on their growing passenger and light rail equipment. COOL! Didn't know that A&M put an HR-412 in service. But what's happening with the top yellow stripe?!?? It's bouncing up and down all over the long hood. I would have left it straight all the way across.

To answer the paint question, you'd have to ask the Ohio Central, that's how they painted it. A&M just added their blue lettering banner to the sides and renumbered.

I am glad to know that the line has chosen to continue their ALCO heritage (unlike another line I know of who switched to GP38s)!!! Thanks for sharing the shot!!!

I hope the HRs don't sour their love for Alcos...they are 251s mind you, but not much more Alco than that...Hitachi electrical gear IIRC.
