I thought that Lease unit looked familar. I had saw it on the KCS Manifest M-SHMB on the Vicksburg Sub in Arcadia,LA back in 06. At first I thought it was a SD45 but it looked shorter than a SD45. So now i know i saw a SD40X! I think 6399 use to be owned by TFM too.

Randy great work!!!! A real inspiration. I know with practice comes perfection but you made the conversion look soooo easy. I do have one question. The detail hatch underneath the three radiator fans, is that a Cannon detail part? Or is it another manufacturer that I am not aware of. The reason I ask is I remember paging through the forum pages and running across someone who makes that something similar with the radiator fan holes already pre-molded but I haven't been able to locate that site since. I used a Plano SD40 stainless steel hatch and cut it short to fit the area. The SD-45 hatch is too long and the fans are spaced further apart. EMD spaced the fans close together and as far back to the end of the hood as possible to fit in the three 48 inch fans. The radiator grilles are Cannon & Company SD-39 grilles. I did a lot of math from pics and these were the closest fit.

I took liberties or "modeler's license" and put a plow on the front last night. It looks better that way....of course UP put plows on them.

Randy,
Your project has inspried me to start collecting the necessary things needed to build one of these. I would like to do a UP unit. Today I snagged a P2K SD45 shell. I can use the long hood end and roof line from it.

I can use the long hood end and roof line from it. Brian, I had to cut out the SD-45 fan section and make a new area out of plastic. The Plano part, I trimmed shorter and then used the fan holes to mark where the new fans went. The rear fan goes very close to the hood end. Glad I could inspire you after all your builds got me back into the hobby.

Thanks for the info Randy. My friend Chris has two Overland SD40x's. Overland did an OK job on them. Nothing like what they will look like in plastic, but I can look at the fan section to get an idea of what I need.
Thanks.
