Very cool. I am planning to build one of my own. Did you have to modify the frame at all to be able to mount the shortened B40-8 shell? Thanks, Charlie

Thanks. Yes, but only a little bit. I believe it was on the breakmans side of the engine that I had to cut down the frame a little bit where some of the battery boxes were behind the cab. I also removed some of the weights that were screwed to the frame in the rear to make room for my speaker.

I'm very interested in this build. I have ordered the shell parts from Atlas. The only thing I was planning to do differently was to use the engine and radiator sections from the Dash 8-32BW. Everything else would be from the Dash 8-40B. That way I can use the seams between the dynamic section and engine to hide the splice. In theory anyway. Were you able to mount the couplers to the frame or did you have to body mount them?

Ive seen someone else do that aswell and looking back I think that would have been easier. The shell fit perfectly onto the B23-7 frame and so I didnt have to make any modifications to get the couplers to work.

This is a beautiful build. I'm planning a similar engine myself, I've got an RPP 8-40B shell to use as the basis for it, and I have just picked up an Atlas B23-7 to use for the frame.
Do you have any other tips or suggestions for parts or details that would help with my version of this build?

Love it. I like those little units. I started one many moons ago before Atlas released the B23-7. My plans were to cut and section the B40-8 chassis and shorten the Atlas shell to match. It turned out to be so much work that I got frustrated and moved on to something else. Not even sure where that thing is at but I may have to dig it out and start back on it.

Thats the route I riginally tried, but found that it would have been too dificult to reconnect the chassis and shorten the drive shafts ect,...

Very nice job, interesting build. Being familiar with the B32-8s the BN had for a while, I had to look up the units that NS has. You did as far as I can see match the prototype nicely. These units must be less of a test than the 3 BN had, especially since NS has around 45 of them and they're still on the roster.

A few small things may be different but I got the main things. Yeah I see them all the time here in NC. Theyre based out of asheville and usually run on locals up to the paper mill.

What parts did you use for your plows?

Details West plows. Im not sure of the exact model number, but I believe they were for NS/CSX units.
