Didn't take much for those cars to roll over.

Loaded hoppers are pretty unstable. Sounded like something was wrong by the time the rear axles of the first car were hitting the frog, but hard to tell. The Conductor failed to inspect the switch before throwing it, and forcing the switch with your foot is generally a no-no. Without inspecting for FOD between the points, or ensuring the points were thrown all the way there could have been a gap. The six axle trucks could negotiate it, but those freight wheels couldn't. If CSX saw that footage that guy could be in a bit of trouble

it seems to me when the conductor threw the switch he noted something was wrong! and forcing the switch with you foot is deffently a no-no

Wow, not that it was a good thing, but way cool to catch it live.. But I did notice@4.27 that it appears the Athearn Truck screw just has came out with out any damage to the mounting hole on the frame of the car....

I have done a lot of train chasing and have seen people do stupid things at the crossings which has taught me to stay back a bit farther and watch for stuff to happen. ( for my own safety as well) This was incredible footage and it really was a good thing this was not a coal drag with help at the rear to keep shoving the train forward. I have always told my self if I ever caught something like this or God Forbid a crossing accident on video that I would send the video to the Railroad to prove or disprove any wrong doing of theirs. I am sure this guy got this into the hands of CSX because of what you all have said about the conductor. I don't know nearly as much as a lot of you do but I do have to agree that the turnout was not looked at as well as it should have been! And Yeah that screw came out pretty clean didn't it! Paulie

Thats amazing footage!!! I've dreamed about what if I caught something like this on a video camera, I did witness a Great Western railway derailment at the Anheuser Busch plant in Ft. Collins, CO a few years back, a DRGW beer car picked the derail as it was being shoved around a curve that went up to the enclosed loading docks, it didn't tip over or anything, but it still gets your blood pumping, I have pics of it right after it happened on rrpicturearchives.net
