Does anyone have any plans or measurements for the CRS-20? Saw a cool video on youtube of one. It sounds like an EMD but smokes like an Alco as on poster said. I'd like to try and build one.

Hello.
No plans in my stuff, and no idea where you might be able to find any. But, True Line Trains will be releasing an RS18u, which I believe would be the best starting point for a kitbash. I think if you can find enough photos, you could probably build a decent unit from this model.

A small batch of CRS20s was made about two years ago. I have two of the resin shells. I have also kitbashed a pair of them out of Kaslo Shops RS18 low hood kits and heavily modified Atlas RS11s. There are some photos at my pbase site: www.pbase.com/cg_shops in the BC Rail models folder. Cyrus

Richard, The two models on my pbase site were basically eyeball measurements. A few compromises had to be made due to me not being able to measure the real thing. What measurements are you looking for?

Hi Cyrus, I was wondering if anyone had the actual measurements for the radiator section and other changes tothe carbody. I'm going to try and eyeball it like you did. Hopefully mine comes out half as good as yours. Richard

Richard,
Are you building the prototype #609 or the standard boxy radiator version? Also the grille screen arangements changed slightly as the rebuilds progressed.

Richard,
Here are the basic dimensions for the boxy radiator section. The upper section is 9.5' x 7.5' x 2'. The lower sides are 8.5' x 6.5'. The rear end plate is 6.5' x 6.5'. There is a small angled piece under the rear overhang that goes between the rear plate and underneath the upper housing. These basic dimensions were the same on both my model and the later resin kit. You will want to use photos for the side radiator grilles as they started to change as the rebuilds progressed with the last one (630) having very little grill left on one side. Also the roof dynamic brake hatch has to be carefully removed and slid back 6' 1/4" from the stock location. Hope this helps.

Richard,
I forgot to mention a few other details. The lower numbered CRS20s used a carbody similar to the RS11 higher numbered models used a carbody close to the RS32/36. Also the handrails were changed on various models so pictures are a must. I recently picked up two additional Atlas RS32s which will also become CRS20s.

I've always referred to them as RS18c's. Even my books refer to them as such. But no matter what they're called, they're awesome.
