Anyone know a good alternative to the Pearl Drop tootpaste trick? I found every other kind except that. I know nothing about toothpaste except that it goes on the toothbrush lol.

A couple weeks ago I had an older BB GP38-2 start making noise, asking for attention. Historically I use Labelles oils along with white lithium grease for gears and the worm face. I had bought a set of Nano-Oils and figured this would be a good place to test out the new oil. Tore everything down to the individual parts and finished the reassembly this weekend. Ran the motor in with the 5W for maybe 5 min each direction, then added the 10W. Gear hub surfaces got the 10W, while the gear faces got the 80W nano-oil (that is weird stuff, very slippery but makes long 'threads' of oil, indicating long molecules/ high molecular weight). Long story short, the unit now runs like it's riding on silk. It is also much, much quieter. Note that I still have the OEM motor in there. And also note that this loco has hundreds of hour of operation on it, so there was no need to break in the gears or motor. Still, a remarkable difference from the original methods I had used. (No, I don't have any connection or incentives associated with the Nano-Oil company. Just sharing my experience!)
