My Penn Lake locomotives are detailed like Reading units, and painted like Delaware & Hudson units. A few of the RS3s actually started out as Atlas factory painted Delaware-Lackawanna units, that I relettered for Penn Lake, while keeping all the striping. For the rest I used Highball Graphics D&H decals..applying the nose striping is a royal pain. Recently, I have gone back and started adding the actual Reading detailing: rain gutters, Nathan M-3 horns, firecracker antenna, and dynamic brakes (not added yet). Nick

I added dynamic brakes to my RS3 projects today: I cut the brake grids from some Cannon & Company radiator screens. Of course after I did that, I found the part from Miniatures by Eric. Nick

Thanks guys. I do love RS3s. I have six in various stages of completion. Four are freight units with dynamic brakes. Two are passenger units with steam generators. All the units will get MU hoses, speed recorders and frame mount bells as well.

The RS3 detail projects continue. The roof details are now painted and the frame striping applied. Nick

And the RS3 fleet is nearly done. A couple the steam generator equipped passenger units still need handrails and headlight lenses, but other then that everyone is detailed, painted, decalled, and DCCed. Penn Lake #4058 is representative of the dynamic equipped freight units: On the Reading & D&H units the bell was painted the same color as the frame. I paint my bells brass so they'll stand out. Nick

I do love my Alcos. And black and yellow is certainly one of the best coverings there is for them. The last few parts arrived the other day and I finished the passenger units. Like Reading units, they are equipped with Custom Finishing shrouded steam generator stacks and Details West cab signal boxes. The bend in the hand rails is also a Reading trait. Nick
