Beautiful Work Robert, I love that tool basket/(s) and the poling brackets. Interior is sweet as well.

That is just to AWESOME, the level of detail on this model is just out of this world. I can't wait to see it all completed.

Simply amazing! I like how the fuel tank, baskets and air tanks are all assembled as one piece. It looks a lot sturdier that way.

wow, this thing is looking good, I like the innovative things like adding levers to the control stand. These are just things most of us probably hadn't thought of...

Hey Robert, any updates on this? Nothing new to report. I don't know if I mentioned this before, but this is a completely parts-built model, with the individual parts acquired from many different vendors, including Atlas, eBay sellers and my scrap box. Because I did not start with a basic, good running locomotive, a bit of extra work is needed to get to that point. Right now, I am building up the drive mechanism using Atlas and NWSL components. As would be expected, nothing seems to go right the first time. More to come soon!

Any news on this build? I am thinking of doing a SD28 myself and have been studying this build for pointers. Great model by the way!

Sorry, nothing new to post. I'm having a little vision trouble, but once the doc gets done with me, it's back to the bench!

Great! I have a few questions. What did you use as the replacement for the top of the long hood and why where two needed? Do you think that maybe a dynamic brake less sd38 long hood top could be used?

Eric, the splicing of the two hood parts happened because I was trying to use what I could from my parts stash. However, if the non-DB SD38 hood will fit your long hood, that's what I would use. If the part is a little too wide, it could be sanded it down to match the width of the long hood.

Quite amazing that as I was reading thru from the start an extra page was added!
Great modelling my friend, I only wish I had this sort of talent to detail my N scale collection.

Hey Robert, I just noticed that all six SD28's were built so late in '65 that their fuel tanks are all 40 series tanks. Even those small C&G tanks. Look at the taper, you'll notice it then. I know that aroung August (I think?) the GP35's got straight frames with 40 series tanks. Well so did the SD28's. The small fishbelly frames of the SD28/35/40X series didnt change like the GP35's. Just the fuel tanks. I would suggest you grab one of Railflyers small fuel tanks. One thing Railflyer has that is very good is their fuel tanks. I'm finaly back on my SD28's for my freelance "Midland Belt" RR. They will be '64 built style with flat dust bins and the earlier fuel tanks etc. Purely fantasy I guess but they will look nice. One other thing I'm going to change is the shallow steps of the Atlas Maser SD35's. I saw this modification on that GP30.com guy's page for his NW SD35. It looks alot better and I'm pretty sure he is using Cannon & Co Kato GP35 steps for replacement. Hope to see you back on this project soon.
