Thanks John. I made a very unsucsessful trip to the hobby shop I "knew" would have the Plano hatches, only to find out they barely have any Plano parts in stock at all. I guess I will be buying those online once the railroad compensates me.... Then the project can really resume...

Excellent Start, Matt, looking forward to the next installment! Hello Matt just joined this site the other day. Really like your post on the SD18 project, planning on doing two my self. I recently purchased two SD18 shells from CMR products, I have two Atlas SD24 Sante Fe that I was going to use as a start. I tried fitting the shell on to the SD24 frames with motor and every thing inclued, very tite fit,so what I deceied to do is order parts from Atlas, I already have motors for them. Iam going to order the frames, detail parts, handrarils SD24 hand rails will work on the 18 shells, also head light and number inserts. Talked to atlas todayat the moment they do not have the RSD5 power trucks in stock, eventually will be insalling decoder and led for lighting. These are going to be Chesapeak&Ohio untis. CMR provides the shells only no detail parts, they cost $37.50 each
