Are you using a Atlas or RPP shell? I pity the conductor turning the brake wheel to fast and getting his knuckles smacked on that grab iron. This is an undec. Ph II Atlas model with a Hi-Tech cab and high hood. Bob

What horn is that? Very nice work, I'm considering building one on an Athearn chassis I have laying around....... This is a Details West AH-191, Leslie RS-5T-RF 5 chime horn. I think you'd be much more satisfied with the Atlas model in the end. Bob

Got a "history'' for this unit Bob? Steven, I have no personal history with this unit, but the old gal was built in late 1967, run 'til her tongue hung out and then retired in early 1982. Bob

All of the body detail work has been completed and the big GE is off to the paint shop. Scans in a couple of days if Hannah doesn't run us out of town. Bob Savannah, Ga.

Thanks for modeling one of my favorite memories of a regal Southern Rwy locomotive. The SOU #3801 went into retirement & stayed at the McDonough Training Center in original Tuxedo until it was replaced mid '90's by NS B36-7 #3819. It was not being used as a running unit, just there for mechanical dept. training. There are pics on the net which show a chain wrapped around the handrails just in front of the engineers window...at Pegram Shops. The chain was still on the railing at the training center... This U30C had an old style GE controller, bi-directional long hood forward. I always like to have as many pics as possible for modeling...here is one. "GE units were relatively rare on the Appalachia District. Two U30Cs and an SD35 pull a string of silversides gondolas near Irondale, VA 1968" by Ron Flanary. Note that the U30C's were originally assigned the 3100 numbers...the "white-face" white numberboards with black letters suggest Locotrol lead unit.

The brass etched steps from Mr. Banna add a nice touch to the unit.

Did Hi Tech redo the high hood? Mine is a slab sided black piece of junk.

Is Phase 2 the correct phase for Southern's U30C's?

I have an Atlas U33-C drive and would like to put a U30-C shell on it to do a project like 3804H. Will an Atlas U30-C shell fit an Atlas U33-C drive? I don't have a U30-C shell to try and really don't to buy one if it won't. Anybody done this? Also what phase of the U30-C did the Southern use?
Eddie.

The high nose? Yes, they are just fine, but not as nice as the ones Bob used.
