These will become Santa Fe F7's and I really don't know what they will be yet. These are Highliner shells on Genesis drives and Brian Banna has already milled the frame and started the underframe detailing so you can see the 1" scale gap between the frame and fuel tank. It may be a while until I get these as there are four... Perry

Perry, This has the looks of a very interesting project! I always have liked seeing others build the highliner kits, and this is no exception. Do the highliner shells only fit on Athearn Genesis drives of do they fit on something else as well?

Wow, very nice, I like how Brian did the frame. It looks very clean and prototypical. Anyone know how much was milled off the Athearn frame?

The nice thing about the Highliners shells is that they will fit on just about any drive you can come up with. I've used them on Genesis drives, Proto 1000 F3 drives, and Athearn BB drives, myself, and have seen them mounted on Stewart drives too. Oh sweet! I was under the impression that they only fit Athearn Genesis drives. Someday I will get around to building a set of ABBA units for my modern day Southern Railway!! -Andrew

Well, personally, I would...with the battery boxes, brackets, and fuel tanks from Hi Tech, you can make them look GOOD. And since Brian already had the underframes milled and detail started, you're already halfway there. Since you mentioned possibly doing them in Bluebonnet, they'd be deskirted anyway...any F's after about 1960 would be deskirted. About the only thing you'd have to do would be to narrow down the Hi-Tech fuel tanks. Theirs are 1500 gallon, and most F7's had 1200 gallon tanks. It does look like some (most? Hard to tell) of Santa Fe's F's may have had their 1200 gallon tanks modified for larger capacity by dropping the bottom of the tank about 3": railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=291571&nseq=0Compare that tank to the one on Wabash 1178: railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=275858&nseq=75Not all the Santa Fe tanks were modified by dropping the bottom, Some as I modeled had extensions on the ends and kept the stock profile. Narrowing the Hi-tech Tank will not work as the side profile is different than either modification. I know because I made all the drawings Hi-Tech used for all the F unit parts. Hey, Dave, maybe you can do a Cannon version of F fuel tanks that can be built to suit most any prototype (hint, hint). I know you got the mad skills to do it ! Right now, I just need someone to do a PE part for the water fill plate for F/E/GP units and I would be happy!! ;D

Pleeeeeaseeee! Oh and the milling and work looks awsome, I love the idea of have the tank not be part of the chassis. but I guess for now I will continue to carfully select the skirts versions for my slow growing fleet.
