Please post some more pictures when you have time. Are they still running those old U23B's? I thought I had read GC had some newer power on the way. Here's one for the low nose guys. This is the only low nose unit running on the GC at this time and the last remaining GE purchased from CSX.

Sorry Hotshot, worked on a 3900 a few times and I hated every second I was stuck on one! The pisser stunk worse then you could think, the air didn't move, if you ran it longhood you got more exhaust in your face and the road at speed like a log wagon.

CIOR, I never worked for the railroad so I can't say much about running one of these old gals, but as a railfan and a modeler, I learned to love these old GE's over the years. The two sweetest sounds that I know of are U23-B's and my old 1952 John Deere tractor when both are under load. Bob

Hotshot, those old GE's made me want to quit. LOL, they loaded poorly, slipped on the rails in wet weather, and just stunk it up badly. In hot weather, you had to keep ice in the urinal to keep the stink from rolling into the cab. See the urinal opening dumped right on top of the traction motor and well, you get the hint.
The doors into the cabs to say the least are clausterphobicly tight.
I will admit, as a model railroader, they are neat to listen too. I bought a GE Uboat with sound just to hear it chug.... GUILTY as charged!

When it comes to modeling, I love 1st and 2nd. generation motive power. But when it comes to working with them HELL NO. I had one of those high hood 3900s on the head end of a triple crown train once and it was horrible, worst engine I had ever been on. P

Nice looking unit. Overland I assume. This B-30 was built from a RPP shell, a Hi-Tech HH kit, several detail parts, sits on an Athearn chassis and powered by a Kato motor. Bob

Wow is all I can say Bob. I would of bet money on brass. Beautiful work! Steven, did you say brass?? Oh my goodness, you're trying to hurt my feelings!! LOL!! I used to own several pieces of brass, but when plastic models began to look so much better (and run better) I decided to rid myself of most of my brass collection. Bob

Bob, you know, I don't recall any of the older 3500's around these parts much. I know the newer GE -8's that got the 3500 numbers, they stunk too, in performance anyway.

Matt, The NS B-32-8's, or D8-32B's as some folks call them, began at 3522 right after the B30's and are in my opinion, the ugliest GE's on the entire railroad. From the side, they resemble a skinny legged woman with her skirt pulled up because of how high them sit on the trucks. Bob

You know everyone who is on this forum and works for the railroad and has been on a high hooded engine has to admit that they have the roomiest restroom of any of the engines even those wide cabs of today !!!

They sway badly if I recall right. We hated getting them on the locals too, no room for the crews, as the rear bulkhead (electical bulkhead) stuck out into the cab a good foot if not more.

Yes, highhoods have nice facilities that you can stand in. The widenose engines are cramped. I'm 6'4" and lets just say that leaving the door open was your only hope. ;D

Well I am 5'6" and I have to leave that dang door open (with the front and rear door locked and a/c on) ,and I only use them when there is no other choice.............
