ONtario Northland's Iroquois Falls Subdivision, and the Protpo-frreelance part wold be what once was the Abitibi railway and Navigation/Abitibi Pulp & Paper railroads around Iroquois Falls, Ontario. In the real world, Abitibi tore out the railway in the late 50's, and replaced it with a logging road. in MY world, the Logging railway is still there. getting logs from the woods to the paper mill.

I'm currently modeling PRR, B&O, LV, CNJ, and reading from late steam to all 4 railroads downfall. and my layout once finished will be based on the Jim Thorpe to Port Clinton area in that era.

Hello gang-
I am also have a fictional railroad- Mine is based in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts. Sorta a bridge line between modern day CSX and Pan Am Southern/Guilford.
I have always found the Berkshires to be a very interesting/challenging strech of area, especially from the old B&A perspective. Mountain railroading at it's finest.
Thanks Matt

The current plan is to use parts of the original W&LE/NKP rights of way in eastern Ohio. Since the R.O.W. has changed little (industrial sidings are the main exception), I could run steam up to the current roster on the new W&LE! In reality, the era will be from the W&LE/NKP merger (1949) thru to 1956 ( or so).

The Pacific Belt will be set in Northern California/Oregon in the 60's-70's era. No plan yet. But a locomotive roster to run at my clubs layout.

cont'd.... Mid 2012, my whole world was flipped over. On my Freelance Railroad, I started liking, and using, more Orange! I started experimenting with fonts, in 2013... THIS year (2015), I met a friend with an Alps Printer, and now FINALLY have my own logo and herald! NOT well seen in this photo... This caboose is currently under construction, but will be unveiled soon! Here's my herald - patterned after the Cotton Belt! (There IS a build thread HERE, in the rolling stock forum) Carmine

I'm doing modern day Massachusetts. My road took over Guilford when they got into airlines. I roughly do from Hoosac Tunnel to the Willows in Ayer, MA.

Mine is 1977-79, Pacific Northwest.... Mostly N. California, where I grew up. Patterned heavily after the Espee & BN,with hints of WP. I've imagined operations as far north as Olympia, and as far East as Boise. First & Second Gen runs strong, and Bicentennial units still pop in now and then!

The Western Pacific and the debate is between 1960 to 1975. Leaning towards the 60’s! Third Subdivision Oroville East of the Keddie Wye up the Feather River to Portola. With the QRR as a lumber mill in the 60’s. Fifth Subdivision Portola to Winnemucca, high desert let em roll! Loyalton Branch - Hawley to Loyalton as a mill and pulp wood source, last of the steam era. Reno Branch- Reno Jct. To Reno major industries, aggregate-agriculture-lime-gypsum-livestock-petroleum products- propane-coiled steel running through from UT to CA.... RJ

Freelancing the Norfolk & Western Roanoke to Winston - Salem line as a heavy electric while the rest of the "system" is steam powered, set in 1949 (just prior to the delivery of the Budd 10 Roomette - 6 Double Bedroom sleepers of 1950) which allows Pullman green sleepers to see heavy use. The only diesels, a Danville & Western ALCO RS2, a Carolina Aluminum GE 65T and a shortline connection's only locomotive, will be all that will see use... scary thought for the Diesel Detailer forum... but you did ask.
Had originally planned on modeling the late-80s to early-90s because of my interest in units such as EMD GP49s and GE B32-8s but ever since I first got bit by the N-scale bug I had insisted that if someone ever did a Ten Wheeler I would model a steam era road... so now, thanks to Bachmann, I am...
Sorry, no photos... still in the planning stages.

I model Western Maryland from Hagerstown, MD to Cumberland MD as well as my freelanced Coal River around the KY/TN border. Both in early 1975.

I've been bouncing around the idea of a protolance (that right?) of the DT&I (or going completely freelance and call it the Ohio Southern but keep the same route). The "north end" (including Flat Rock) is still active all the way down to Washington Court House (just like it is now). Except in an odd twist around the Penn Central failure they acquired the now "Dayton District" from Cincy to Columbus as well as the "WV Secondary".
Still tryin to think out the small details but, this would give my railroad a good north/south link (for whats its worth) as well as a link to some of the southeastern ohio coal fields and West Virginia.
Power Roster is based off the DT&I with a few changes. Compared to the real DT&I. More of the 1st generation power was purchased than what happened in reality. Some was traded off, some was sold in the later years. In 1976 when the DT&I took control of the Dayton District and Secondary. Additional power was finally purchased in the form of EMD GP15s, Gp39-2s (instead of 40s), GP38-2s, SW1500s (for Flatrock), and a small set of SD40-2s dedicated to coal service. I'm hypothesizing that a few additional units were picked up through the years (like the NS GP49s that were cast off around 2001).

I model a private road that is part of the Chessie System set in 1975-1976. It's called the Ohio Valley and it's original mainline is based on the New Port News and Mississippi. It stretches from Ashland, KY to Kansas City, MO, and Chicago, IL and Detroit, MI to New Orleans, LA. It started purchasing diesels in 1938, and was an ALCo/FM railroad until 1956 when it purchased its first EMDs. The Ohio Valley stayed with ALCo, purchasing only a few EMDs and GEs until ALCo closed. Since 1969 its purchases have been split evenly between GE and EMD. It became part of the Chessie System in 1973, but was controlled by the C&O since 1925. C&O exerted more control in 1949 with the OV locomotives being numbered in series with the C&Os. In 1949 the OV adopted the C&Os paint for its locomotives and other equipment. Starting in 1956 the OV bought almost and even split between 4 and 6 axle locomotives, continuing until 1975.

The railroad that I'm attempting to portray is the Pioneer Valley Railroad. Between Westfield and Holyoke, and the interchange with the B&A [CSX].

Looks like a few folks forgot that this thread is under the "Prototype Freelancing"... some of the replies don't quite seem to fit (or I am mis-understanding the section title). My roads are all based on North Carolina and Virginia lines and comprise the former Cape Fear & Yadkin River (later Atlantic & Yadkin/Southern Railway and Atlantic Coast Line), Roanoke & Southern (Norfolk & Western), Winston - Salem Southbound, Northwestern North Carolina (Southern Railway), High Point Randleman Ashboro & Southern (Southern Railway), High Point Thomasville & Denton (WSS), Yadkin Rwy. (Carolina & Northwestern, Norfolk Southern) and Aberdeen & Ashboro (Norfolk Southern, Aberdeen Carolina & Western). The CF&YR and R&S lines are Class One roads while the rest are Class Two, heavy in coal, furniture, pulpwood, tobacco and more. All are freelanced using the same routes as the above mentioned prototypes with heavy port traffic to Wilmington (run through traffic for N&W and SOU). Quite eye popping to say the least !!! But one change I would recommend... reverse the hash marks to go along with the angle of the lettering, having them the way they are seem to conflict with each other.

I model an prototype roster, but the physical plant is freelanced. Sorry for the breach of etiquette.
