So this model was a simple build, but it introduced me to the excellent Proto RS-27. Seriously I think this is the best model Proto has done to date, lots of detail and an excellent runner! Anyway, here's Precision National RS-27 #901, circa mid 1970's when it was leased to CP Rail: -Trevor

Nice looking model - what do you think of the metal sideframes vs the older plastic ones P2K has? I like the brake chain details, but believe the trucks probably have some goofy gearing like the U28/30B's have, and then compound worm gear to make the motor work.
I guess I am in the Andy Harmon circle of thought that 12:1 or 14:1 is best gearing. I have several sets of P2K AAR-B trucks for use under locos like the Stewart U25B. They are a really good looking truck to me, and I like them better than the Atlas equivelant, but I heard the C420 got updated sideframes with seperate brake cylinders.
Regards, Brian

Don't show that to RedP!!! Although I believe it might be a tad bit out of his time.
Ya, I know makes me want to go back to the 1980 time line. Oh well, can't have it all can we...
Nice job!

The RS-27 supply on ebay has gotten thin over the past few months, but I did manage to pick up an undec for $45.00. It'll be a parts source for my BCR RS-18 project! -Trevor

Hi Trevor,
Let me know if you have leftover RS27 parts when you're done your RS18. I'm building a Cape Breton Development Corp (Devco) Railway RS27 and I could always use spare parts.
