It's missing the 3 class lights (or blanks) above the number boards.

Well Steve, that is an absolutely fantastic job, I am not familiar with these engines to know what is missing either but for your first HO engine, that is a Home Run buddy!!

Looks outstanding, love the patched out CP lettering and all. Interesting how CP/CN have the sand filler hatches side-ways like that? They look like the old GP7/9 style. You said that you forgot to add the class lights above the numberboards, in the photos I've seen of this unit it did not have them as of 2003, not sure what year you are modeling this though. You can't even tell it ever had them. Anyway, GREAT MODEL! Thanks for sharing!

You can't even tell it ever had them. thank you all for your comments... it wasn't me... I did say nothing about the class lights, I didn't see them on pictures neither but the major error are the radiator grills... the prototype doesn't have these bloody chicken wire thingies... it was a schock for me when I dicovered this error after the whole thing was painted... my customer is happy with the result and that is all what counts... lucky me... (I will do better research with the next one...)

and this did have the protruding radiator grills typical of most Dash 2 units and if I remember right this unit had a strange box style grill for the inertial intakes? then I can nit pick more about the handrails but you don't have the GMDD steps to invoke this issue. oohps, didn't see that you already did mention the radiator grills... ...yeah, the steps and handrails are wrong, on purpose, I did start with MbE parts but wasn't happy with the result so I did not change them after all

I didn't realize that it was not you that mentioned the class lights...oops! The radiator grills are really easy to miss while researching a prototype!
All that matters is that the customer is happy with the model, as long as they are happy that's all that matters!

The class lights thing was my guess at what was wrong. Some of the CP units still had them when they went to CN, some had them removed. This one must have had them removed already. Really nice job on this one, I particularly like the patches in CN red-orange over the CP red. I love the story behind these units too: They were paid for by Ontario Hydro to go with some coal gons and a contract to CP to haul coal from a mine in north Saskatchewan to the lakehead at Thunder Bay. CP used them wherever, along as the coal trains had power. When the contract wen to CN (1997?), Ontario Hydro asked for their coal gons and their 11 locos too! (well, they did pay for them.) If I remember correctly, the contract went back with CP in 2000 along with the SD's, except 5391 which stayed on CN until 2008?

So 5391 does/did exist? I thought it was made up!

You did an excellent job on this one steve. This is actually my favorite model on the site! One detail that i noticed right away was the chewed-up bottom of the snow plow. (I assume you did that on purpose?) I usually get a good look at the plows getting on and off the locos at work and almost every one of them is bent, scratched, or dented....usually directly above one or both of the rails. It's something that I never even thought of doing on my models until I saw your photos. I'm going to attempt to do some damage to one of mine, I hope it comes out looking half as good as yours.

I can't speak for Steve but if the plow you have is made of white metal, it is pretty easy to "damage" the plow. I use pliers, files, etc. to get the dents and dings like on the prototype. In this picture you can see some of the dents that I put on this plow. Try it out, it's actually quite fun! -Andrew

I guess I should not be so anal about keeping mine in good shape! The dents do look pretty cool.
