I recently purchased a pair of BNSF Proto 2000 GP38-2's at an insane price. A few questions though as Ive never messed with them, are the sideframes upgradeable to Athearn blomberg frames? Also, the models come with the AAF Angled Paper Air Filter Box, I would like upgrade 1 of them to the square type, and and a cannon part to the other. It shows in the schematic to be a separate part, but, with the lack of knowledge of these units I just dont want to jump right in without info. Thanks guys!

Okay, I've got the answer to that as I'm doing one up right now.
In answer to your first question - Straight from the box, you're not going to get Athearn blomberg sideframes on the GP38-2 truck because it's a different design than the ones used on the older P2K Geeps. Those locos used an Athearn clone drivetrain; the GP38-2 strongly favors the Atlas method of construction.
I've successfully mounted Athearn Blomberg trucks on the GP38-2 truck. It required some cutting and filing on the back of the Athearn sideframe, and the removal of the Athearn press pin. I added the original contact strip to the Athearn sideframe and glued two lengths of slotted sprue to serve as the mounting pegs. It wasn't easy, but it's possible. I'll post some pics once my camera's up and running.
Secondly - the PAF box. It, like the DB blister, is glued to the shell. However, I was able to disassemble my Conrail example's shell into its component parts (cab, long hood, sill, short nose, DB blister and PAF box) using minimal pressure from my fingers.
One of the dimensional errors of the P2K long hood concerns the PAF box. Quite simply, the Cannon part is just a hair too short to fit the location of the original box, leaving a very small gap. Not a big issue but one that will need to be addressed with some sheet styrene.
