Hello all.
I recently got back into trains after a 15+ year break. Things sure have changed. Seems like everything is “ready to run”, super detailed, and expensive. I model Canadian pacific in Alberta, and aiming for the 60s but not sure how rigid I’m going to be.
I became very interested in H16-44s when i restarted the hobby. Found out that the only options were old Bachmann spectrum, or preorder a rapido. Local train store had a couple of the spectrums. Bought the one with some grill work done to it. Really “hummed and hawed” about it. Put a bunch of work into “polishing a turd”, or pay hundreds for the rapido. I put some work into the bachmann last weekend and I’m quite happy with the results. I’ll start a build thread on that.
I found this site while researching how to detail the H16. It was nice to see others that still enjoy the building part of the hobby. “Polishing a turd” may seem pointless to some, but the end result I’ve seen on here is a unique and acceptable model. I’m considering buying some cheapo locos to practice a few techniques. As long as your having fun who cares right?

AtlasI believe also makes an H16-44 in ho and n I think Not sure how I didn’t notice that. Looked it up, and the Atlas model is a much earlier version than what CP used. The amount of work to go into it would probably be less than the spectrum. Probably would run better though…
