Hi all, I've browsed this forum for years looking at all the amazing stuff you guys build, and I figured it was about time to make an account. I'm mainly a DCC/electronics and sound guy, but I'd like to start dabbling with building and painting stuff. I have some P2K E-units I'm working on and once they are further along I'll share the project on here.
This is what I mainly do in the hobby - custom sounds. Here's one of my projects:

Very nice! Welcome to the Double D! Did the P42's ever have a direct valve for the horn like the F40's?

And nope, they have always had a dual Graham White 501 solenoid valve setup with a two-stage button. One of the 501s has a ball valve restrictor. Half-blast triggers the restricted valve, and full blast triggers both valves. This setup is on the Acela, HHP-8, F59PHI, and all three GE Genesis types, basically everything from Amtrak's 1990s shopping spree.

That's some cool stuff love the horn effects.
Is this something you do as a side, or for yourself love the way the horn actually sounds like the handles being pulled at different stages.
Welcome to the Double D

Welcome to the Double D Thanks. It was something I did for myself for years but recently it has become more of a side income thing.

Looks great, now do some F40s bro...
I tried it a few times, but never figured this out: can you get the bell to ring (and keep ringing) when the horn is blown, like the prototype?

ESU recently updated most of their sound files for LokSound 5 with new auto bell logic. The bell rings when the horn is blown and pressing F1 actually turns it off instead of starting a second bell like it used to.

Ah...good to know. I haven't tried it since the v5 was released. So, where are the F40s?? Lol. I’m more of a GE guy, but I do want to do an F40. I’ve always liked those unique mixed cast P5A’s that were on a few units and I want to try making a quillable version of one of those.

I have a set of Nathan P5a sitting in basement off a former Southern dash7 we had scrapped.
