Before you say "just go buy the Atlas MP15DC", please understand that I am a cheap ass. My Idea is to try and score a cheap ConCor MP15 and modify it to match a Manufacturers Railway MP15DC. The major problem, of course, is the lack of the square air filter box by the cab, any other differences wouldn't be big enough to bother me. Does anyone make this as a stand alone detail part? Thanks!

There's a reliable seller on Ebay called Sooo Much Stuff or something like that. He sells Atlas parts at reasonable prices, maybe he has something suitable. Steve

He has the the hood with the air box for about $8, which isn't too bad. I'd hate to cannibalize it just for the box though.

Before the Atlas unit, I started doing exactly that. I found an article about kitbashing GATX MP15s in an old 90s-era Model Railroader, and it had the dimensions for scratchbuilding the filter box from styrene. Both the magazine and the incomplete model are unfortunately long gone from my collection. I should have scrapped it for the Kato motor, which went for more than I got for the running unit. Dangit.
Alternately, I think stretching the Athearn SW1500 shell and splicing in those hood doors from the Con Cor shell would look better than the Con Cor model, but that might not meet your budget either.
