It has to be scratch built. And Stlrail is just the man to do it!

It has to be scratch built. And Stlrail is just the man to do it! Well if that's my only option! Some more progress: New Handrails. Shaved the "toy size" headlights, and added new Detail Associates pyle twin beams, also added some KV Models etched metal doors. Added some styrene sill details. Cutout and filled in the space for the handbrake. Started cutting down the EMD fuel tank, might go look for a small hacksaw tomorrow, I'm not even thru the first side, and it's eating Dremel wheels and batteries.

Detail Associates made a part that possibly could be used for those vents.

Hi Just a quick comment in defense of Tyco's detailing. A pet annoyance of mine is the location of the cab side windows on the Atlas N-Scale C-630. Tyco got this right, sort of. The cab window was in the centre of the cab side on the earlier Centuries such as the C-424 and C-628. When they squared the front corners of the cab on the C-430, C-630 and Late C-628 etc, they just added a section and didn't change where the window was. The "sort of" part is that the squared off corners appear to be on the front of all the new cabs, so is at the long hood end of a high nose C-628/630. Not a biggie, but interesting. My Atlas C-630s and other models that use the same cab still look okay, but it's a blot. My apologies to anyone who now sees this as a problem. Cheers Steve

Cheers Steve Only problem is, on the high hood centuries (both 628 and 630) the cab windows are shifted to the front of the cab, I'm willing to live with this since the cab is part of the TYCO shell. I don't really want to deal with all the cutting to spin the cab, or fabricating new cab windows...

That was a lot of metal to remove! On to the other side... It's amazing how well Stewart/Bowser details, like air tanks, fit the TYCO shell.

Looking good John. I think I would also live with the cab as is. Not many would notice. Steve

Got all the little stuff and handrails done on one unit, hopefully will follow suite with the other one tomorrow. Then I'll hit them with a coat of primer to see how them look. They won't be perfect, but I'm confident they'll be the best looking TYCO's anyone's seen in a while.

Both are ready for a nice coat of gloss black today. You'll notice they're both on Stewart Hobbies chassis now (I had another basket case I picked up on eBay for $35). There is a set of Atlas Trainmaster trucks on the way for the new chassis, which should work with some modification.

And of course, my airbrush has died after 1 and 1/2 coats. Disassembled and cleaned it thoroughly with no success. Might have a new one by Tuesday...

Single or double action? I have repaired many brands over the years and most only require new seals.

Single or double action? I have repaired many brands over the years and most only require new seals. Just a cheap, single action, siphon feed. Pointzero Airbrush It's cheap ($15 shipped!), and I've been really happy with its performance, but I admittedly have been a bit negligent in doing thorough cleanings, which I'm sure is what killed it. I'm still toying with it a bit, but the new one will be here by the middle of next week.

While I don't remember off hand, the N&W C630's on the Trainmaster trucks rode higher than the C630's with Tri-mounts. A search of the NWHS archives might show the diffference.

Todays update: My new airbrush arrived and I layed down a few good coats of black. Also got the FM trucks modified for the correct ride height, I think it turned out well. James, it did sit just a little higher, but just as on the prototype, it's barely noticeable...

Outstanding especially considering what they started as! Can't wait to see them finished.
